I need drums, but have NO idea what I'm doing (found a kit)

If you can find a Yamaha stage custom set used they are great sounding drums at a really decent price. GC used to always have them around $400 or so and the drummer in the last band I was in had a set of them and they sounded a lot better than his Pearl Export kit. I'm also a Mapex player atm, and I'd certainly recommend them over similarly priced Tama and Pearl kits.

For cymbals I'd look at mid grade options rather than the cheapest any company has to offer. While some cheaper options like Wuhan or the Meinl Classics Customs are nice good sounding cymbals, I'd not bother with zbt's or sabian b8's.

We tried for 2 years with painfully adequate results miking up an acoustic kit to record. We ended up going with Vdrums and Superior drummer as a plug-in, it eliminated the less than stellar room sound, the mikes and mike pres, and made huge drum sounds instantly available. We still use real cymbals miked up, but that is much easier to pull off for whatever reason

But yes, Vdrums look gay in your studio

Well went ahead and grabbed this Pulse shell kit. It's like brand new, parents bought it for the kid for christmas and banged on it for 5 minutes and gave it up. Doesn't even appear to need heads. With the condition and for only $150 I could not pass this up.

Now I need a throne, hi hat, and misc cymbals and their hardware. Oh, and I need to learn how to play too, that would help.

I came across ANOTHER kit for a screaming deal that was loaded with cymbals and a Tama Swingstar shell kit. Bought it and used almost all the cymbals and stands, and plan to sell the Tama shell kit and double kick pedal that came with it.
