I can't comment on the Rebel, but I do own a M13. It is great IMO--good quality FX, good value, easy to use. I def. prefer it to my G-maj.

I might have missed this part somewhere, but:

You could always go with the rebel and see where that takes you. If you decide you need more options, but not necessarily more power, you could grab an Axe FX and use the loop on the Rebel, either as a power amp, or just for some effects.

The M13 might work for you, but if you decide that you might want 1 or 2 (or 3 or 4 or 50) more amp tones down the line, then the Axe FX would help you out there.

And a thought just occurred. I can't seem to find a link, but I remember an expression pedal that allowed you to change the value of potentiometers, maybe something like that on the EL84/6V6 pot on the Eggie could be cool.

Pat, the Rebel/M13 hang seems like a perfectly viable thing. Me I'd obviously go with the Axe.
I had since April, did over 30 gigs on it in August/September and I do have to agree with Scott Peterson I play more guitat than messing with gear. Now I actually enjoy tweaking that box, but its by choice not necessity.
If you know what you want you can get there.
Plus itr works dope with a head once the GAS returns
For my money a dual thing of Axe direct to FOH as well as into poweramp and guitar cab is the shit. And even though I think pared with a power amp like the VHT 2/50/2 it outdoes half the set ups I've owned. Now until money isdnt tight a 100 bucks mosvalve will tie ya over I'd say. Shit since kage got himself that carvin I'll loan you my Mosvalcve

I'll add a vote for the M13. I have one and use it with my bogner and think its a great peice and great value. I prefer it over the TC G System I had and G Force.

IMHO given the amps you have had Id go with a more chimey tube amp and try out an m13 in front of it.

appreciate the feedback and generous offer.
i've actually got 2-3 random yamaha, peavey, and crate stereo power amps i can use if need be to get by.

all of this is simply forethought in the event the tol 100/gforce rig becomes too much of a hassle to tweak.

i've got to give it more time before i make any radical decisions....

I think you would be blown away at how easy it is to get what you want out of the Axe. I spent about 30 minutes to get close to VH-land... Sure it wasn't perfect, but who cares - it proves the tones are in there and easy to get...

Yeah, of any potential downsides to the AFX, difficulty or time spent tweaking probably isn't one of them. The interface is about as good as it can be...

half of my TV jobs for the fall got pulled less than 24 hours prior to my first shoot day on a new series. my main client's company was bought out in a clandestine takeover and all projects were frozen and all the staff producers that contracted with me vaporized overnight...partly why i sold off some of my gear.

Well I am going against the grain here only because it is you Pat, I just cant see you getting over the barrier that you are not plugged into something with heaters and cathode stripping is not happening for your number one rig. If you had the Coyote I would agree but you dont.

I think the Rebal will made you happy in the short term but Ratter is correct, it will wear off.

I do think you will bound with the M13 though, but you would not need it with the axe-fx and that is something to think about.



My vote, this is going by the fact that I am not too sure about the cleans, is a Flexi which could be had for around $1100 mint. It has what you want in the dirt department, great build, and brings the feel you are looking for.

Yup, this is my suggestion and I have done so by listening to you throughout the years pining for all that is good in the world of tone...the keeper of all that is good in regards to playing.

Hello from a fellow production guy...I'm a partner in a video production company in N. Florida.
Those are cool stills that you posted. I guess you're on the west coast...I don't see the Fonz around here much.

What a crazy biz we work in, but I do love it. I'm primarily a post guy...editing, graphics and 3d animation...but have been going on a lot more shoots since we opened the business. We do a little bit of everything...broadcast spots, corporate gigs, network crew hires, etc.

By your photos, I guess you're primarily a shooter? You mentioned a series...what kind of stuff do you work on? I do like getting out in the field, but admit that I prefer my cushy, low light, constant 72 degree edit suite.

We're video guys through and through...been shooting Beta and mostly DVCPro50 the last 4 years...but we just took delivery 2 weeks ago of one of the Red One 4K cameras. (I'm sure you've heard about it). Definitely not a run and gun camera, but so far, the pictures are looking beautiful. We just did some camera tests today after work and the depth of field is so shallow! Really looks great.

Anyway, sorry for the ramble...back to guitars.

Yeah man - especially with the graphical Axe-FX editor on my computer. It is so easy to just tweak a bit in a few minutes, audition the changes and upload it to the Axe...

custom strat has a very GMW neck, a mahogany body with flame maple cap, and the tone and feel is ideal.
downfall for me is that it has a floyd.

Tone and feel are IDEAL and the "downside" is it has a trem that will not go out of tune? I don't see a downside here Pat?

no one will ever convince me of the fact that floyds are wonderful inventions.

they make guitars sound thin and bright, and i HATE and i repeat HATE how they feel, and look, on a guitar.

BUT this super strat is so rad even i could overlook such a horrific flaw

Regarding the rig. I agree with Ratter's advice 100%.


I love my Axe Fx not because I can make it sound like specific amps (which I can), but because I can build MY sound on a lot of different levels.


The Axe Fx and a nice power amp are a powerful combination that is really tough to beat IMHO....as long as you are willing to take the time to learn the unit (not that tough, but it does take a bit of effort up front)
