The flip side - your "Dark Dumble" clip is still a benchmark for killer tone, and we know where that came from

The other flip side is an Aiken Intruder 30 watt head: Small foot print, tone to die for, run it hot or run it cold for sweet sweet cleans...

I played the Rebel for awhile the other night - for me its biggest attraction was its super small size and the cost as well...but really, I think I would add a few more bucks and track down a Budda SD18 or a few more yet and find an Aiken Tomcat (at least for your intended use...)

There's just waaaaaay too much cool shit out there right now. You probably won't get much in the way of a vote for the Axe-FX from me, I'm not enough of a tweaker to go that route...heh, I don't even care if my amps have effects loops I do like some of the sounds though.

Hello from a fellow production guy...I'm a partner in a video production company in N. Florida.
Those are cool stills that you posted. I guess you're on the west coast...I don't see the Fonz around here much.

What a crazy biz we work in, but I do love it. I'm primarily a post guy...editing, graphics and 3d animation...but have been going on a lot more shoots since we opened the business. We do a little bit of everything...broadcast spots, corporate gigs, network crew hires, etc.

By your photos, I guess you're primarily a shooter? You mentioned a series...what kind of stuff do you work on? I do like getting out in the field, but admit that I prefer my cushy, low light, constant 72 degree edit suite.

We're video guys through and through...been shooting Beta and mostly DVCPro50 the last 4 years...but we just took delivery 2 weeks ago of one of the Red One 4K cameras. (I'm sure you've heard about it). Definitely not a run and gun camera, but so far, the pictures are looking beautiful. We just did some camera tests today after work and the depth of field is so shallow! Really looks great.

Anyway, sorry for the ramble...back to guitars.

i've been at it for almost 20 years..glutton for punishment...done pretty much everything from shoot Betacam from it's start through to the digibeta era to the 900ws, to edit linear-nonlinear media 100 & FCP years, to AD to LD to run sound to produce/direct.

started in the 2 piece cam/deck tube 3/4" days and if you think that's old, some of my friends shot 16 mm for the news!

this past year was the first time i've ever done tapeless HD productions on the HVX-200, the Sony EX, and most recently the Panasonic 2000 and let me tell you letting go of tape was like a baby letting go of his bottle. weird!

most of my stuff nowadays is remote EFP type production with small 3-5 man crews, but back in the h-weird days i routinely ran crews of 30-50 peeps as an AD with my mighty bullhorn..

Well I am going against the grain here only because it is you Pat, I just cant see you getting over the barrier that you are not plugged into something with heaters and cathode stripping is not happening for your number one rig. If you had the Coyote I would agree but you dont.

I think the Rebal will made you happy in the short term but Ratter is correct, it will wear off.

I do think you will bound with the M13 though, but you would not need it with the axe-fx and that is something to think about.



My vote, this is going by the fact that I am not too sure about the cleans, is a Flexi which could be had for around $1100 mint. It has what you want in the dirt department, great build, and brings the feel you are looking for.

Yup, this is my suggestion and I have done so by listening to you throughout the years pining for all that is good in the world of tone...the keeper of all that is good in regards to playing.

the flexi has a killer blues tone in it and cleans up really well w/ gtr volume, but at that point it's getting close enough into axe-fx priceland to go for the next level. maybe...

the swart sounds great but i think i may be more of an aiken guy. i loved the tomcat when it first came out, and the saber, so the intruder may be more my cup of tea....

fwiw i plugged in my tol rig and jammed to the Journey dvd for a while.

not bad......channel 4 lead tone was best and smoking good actually for the NS response,

but i'm missing a great bluesy tone and the coyote had such a fat, cool and unique one with pedals...

I'm curious why the guys considering the Rebel don't also consider the Randall RM20 heads? A few things the Randall has...

1) footswitchable tube boost that gives extra volume and/or dirt (has seperate boost and gain level controls, and it's almost like having a second channel.)
2) pair of EL84 powertubes for a very optomistic 20 watts
3) great fx loop
4) direct recording out
5) designed by the Eggfather himself, Bruce E
6) most importantly, can take the randall MTS series modules. Sure it only runs one at a time, but it sounds great. They have AC30, Plexi, JTM45, XTC, Dual Recto, fender tweed, blackface, deluxe, the three lynch modules, the three hammett modules, SL+ (modded super lead), and more.

I really dig my Randall stuff because I know how to mod the modules... but even stock they are pretty sweet. It helps push GAS away when you can buy another module and turn your amp into something 'new' in less than a minute. I own two RM100s, an RM50, the rack setup and a RM20 combo and head. I love the RM20 head because it's so freaking small yet all tube and kicks ass.

Oh, and my vote is for the axe-fx. Plus I'd love for Pat to get one and then post his settings so I can steal them.

Cool...I started in the biz around '94. It was perfect timing to have to learn all the technique of linear editing, then throw it all away 2 years later when everyone switched to NLE's. I don't really mind though. Think of the years saved not having to preroll tape!

The new Red is our first tapeless camera, but I'm sure we'll be getting another more traditional ENG/EFP HD camera soon. Right now, we use an SDX900. Those little HVX-200's look amazing...especially in relation to their price...but my buddy hates the small form factor. We were really impressed with the Panny 2000, so that's what we've got our eye on for the time being. What did you think of it?

But yeah, a tapeless workflow is a little scary right now. We just bought an lto-4 tape backup to wrangle all the data of the Red. My main concern is finding an old shot...you know, "I need that sunset shot from last year's production." It'll be a monstrous pain in the ass...

custom custom bridge, single coil neck...that's it. one volume pot that pulls for a neck/bridge combo. no toggle.
super fast, slim profile unfinished maple neck w/ medium jumbo frets, flame maple cap on body and headstock, clear finish mahogany body back and sides. gold floyd hardware.

and i swapped around some preamp tubes in the eggie and it made a big difference. also brought my bogner 4x12 home for the critical listen

Bleh! Neck relief is OK? Nut height? FWIW, my EVH has like 3 shims under the floyd nut...

If the neck is not twisted or a rouge fret does not exist.................

Ensure that both posts of the floyd are the same height, you could raise the treble side a tad to see if that helps. Could also be the nut itself has shifted over time as well and could use a re-seat or new shim.
