ok my first run in with the accursed floyd...the high E string frets out on the first and second frets...

what's the first thing i need to adjust?

If the neck is not twisted or a rouge fret does not exist.................

Ensure that both posts of the floyd are the same height, you could raise the treble side a tad to see if that helps. Could also be the nut itself has shifted over time as well and could use a re-seat or new shim.

Could be lots of things Pat.

so now floyds color your frets rouge too?

reseating my nuts!?!?!?!

blasphemy! :D

although it actually does sound great....when i don't play the 1st or 2nd fret on the high E that is...!!!

Bleh! Neck relief is OK? Nut height? FWIW, my EVH has like 3 shims under the floyd nut...

perfect--
i've had this floyd equipped thing for what...12 hours and already i have to do despicable things like shim my nuts.

Don't sweat that. Ask anybody that's played my EVH...

ps - I'm not even 100% sure that's the prob...just one thing worth checking.

dude, not for nothing..but you consistently have some of the best tone I've heard on just about any forum I visit...

why do you care what we think? lol

man it's just this gear stuff makes you crazy sometimes...and the ears and people here are great.

so i come to perhaps be talked off the tone ledge, and appreciate the different perspectives and POVS from tone brothers who have collectively seen it all, and aren't blithering oafs.

oh, I hear ya..I was like that not too long ago..if I was having a bad day or not happy with something it was always 'I need a new pickup! new speakers! new tubes!'...it wasn't my gear though..my gear's fine..it was me..playin' like shit....LOL..so I'd take a break, come back with fresh ears and I'd be good to go =D

was just curious is all because your sound is always great

Sounds like you need to shim the nut. They sell the Floyd nut shims that fit perfectly. I had to do it when i had the EVH Charvel

what does it take to shim a floyd?
any instructions online?

Maybe I missed it because I scanned thru this post quickly, but why not a MOD 50?? You obviously like the Egnater tone, right? The MOD takes most kinds of power tubes that can be biased by you in a few minutes--6V6 to 6550--Whatever your in the mood for. It has a low power setting and full 50 watt setting for when you want to crank it--and you will. The ability to change preamps at will from Fenders to Marshalls to Mesas to Egnaters to etc., etc..... One of the best loops in the biz, actually 2--one serial, one parallel. It's a tube amp that has that magic that will probably never be 100% duplicated by digital processing/modelling/programming. If you decide to sell it, you will get out of it around what you paid for it, maybe more. And, takes all of 4 1/2 minutes to "program" your sound and you don't need to do it on a computer. Twist a few knobs and turn it up!

Just throwing it out there.......

Pat, here's a link. They come in a pack with different sizes. You just remove the nut (2 screws) and its a trial and error thing. You add/remove shims till you get what you want-

does it matter what the shim is made of?

cut up a business card? that's what i do for the neck pocket if it needs it....rock and roll!

because i already have the TOL 100 which is basically the precursor to the MOD modular amps....

i'd like it to be a little more simplified for the moment.
