I played a Jet City amp for the first time today.

Let's just say.. my 5150 II is going on Ebay tomorow morning.

it sounded HUGE. Great through the Jet City cab, I may have to buy the cab too if it doesn't sound fantastic through my Marshall 212.

The shop has stopped dealing Jet City due to lack of interest (most people just want Marshall, Orange etc etc in England) so they've come down on the price a fair bit.

I'm a bit annoyed about the fact that you need the footswitch to change channels, but that's not a - huge- concern. I'm thinking about going with the 50w though, since most of my playing will be at low volumes and this thing is LOUD.

The cleans aren't as clean as I expected but they sound great! So many tones out of this amp, and so many 'in between' tones. I played that amp for longer than I've ever played an amp in a shop for before. It has more gain than I ever thought it would but it's quite loose. Very buzzy with high gain, I'll have to try it with my NS-2 and a boost.

I know, I know. It has so much more bass than I found, not the same kind, or should I say calibre of mids as the 5150. How did you find it? I found myself pushing the mids pretty hard and cutting back the bass.

I've got a 50 watter coming next week. Can't wait to play it! I totally dismissed these amps at first due to the odd brand naming and weird looking '333' logo, but after playing one and looking at the price tag I was sold. I thought they were just copping the soldano name to hock cheap gear, but no, they are pretty bad ass amps and definitely have the soldano vibe.

part of the buzzy sound is from the chinese tubes. replace them and it should help smooth that out a bit. there's a video on the jet city site that compares the difference between the stock tubes and replacements in the jca 20h and even tells you what the replacements are. it does make a noticeable difference.
for the record.. i've got a jca 2112 rc. i wouldn't mind the 50 watt head myself. i've run an sd-1 in front for a boost and like it alot.

It's the same kinda buzz as my 5150 II has with TAD valves, and my friend's 6505 with Ruby's, but a little more so. I think it'll be fine with a noise supressor.

at first i was concerned about build quality.. but after talking to olaf.. he assured me that the build quality and components are actually quite good. that sealed the deal for me.

Oh, another thing I forgot to mention, the one I tried had a busted indicator LED.

NOT GOOD! Apparently it's quite a common problem, but the guy at the store said there aren't any other problems that he knows of which are common in this amp.

Thanks man, sounds good. That's pretty much what my settings were today. What cab are you using? Also, have you tried it for tight, percussive metal rhythm? It wasn't as good as my 5150 but it was putting out a lot more bass and I didn't have a boost or noise gate.

I've got the 20 watt head and cab and love it. It's like A1 sauce... thick and hearty. For the price, you can't beat them. Articulate, crunchy and warm tubey goodness for under a G? Yes please.

Marshall 1960A. Not the tightest cab in the world, but it works FOR ME. I'm more of an 80's guy, so I can't say that the sound you're looking for is the one I go after, but I will say that I HATE flubby.

It's hard for me to comment on bass, because I usually do what I can to dial it out. I go for a balanced sound, with a slight emphasis on high mids.

Well, I play lots of stuff, blues, jazz, prog, 80s stuff like Ozzy, modern metal etc. I'd like to see how versetile this amp is incase I decide to join a modern metal band in the future.

I tend to dial the bass out as well, I have a bass player for fucks sake.

My buddy's JCA100H was like that too. The LED on the front cut in and out. He ended up having it replaced with a light bulb and it does the trick!

And just for the record: At our amp party last night, we put a modded JCA100H up against a SLO clone that was built by Eric at Wolfe Amplification. They were literally neck and neck. I'm sure a real SLO would have a little more mojo than a copy would (no offense Eric, that head still kills!), but the JCA definitely has that potential. For the price, it's great. And, from what I understand, it's only really a resistor tweak away from a Hot Rod.

Ah that's great to hear. Reading about the Blackstar HT100 which tends to score better in reviews, I'm beginning to have second thoughts, I wonder if the 80s hard rock lovers on this forum have influenced me a bit. Judging from the clips, the Jet City sounds better though. The Blackstar looks way cooler and has much better features.
