I was out at Guitar Center today and they had a Knaggs Keya hanging up. It was amazing. It played like butter. The action fit and finish was spot on. The bridge pickup was pretty good, but the neck was a little boomy. Otherwise, I was really impressed.

PRS should sue for this. The other Guitar Center had one too. This one felt better to me, but didn't play as well. It needed a little love, as per usual with Guitar Center.

If we all liked the same things what a boring world we would live in Mr Bezo!I think it's pretty, but I like ugly guitars.

Yeah I can’t figure out why. Same body woods, similar hardware. Mine also has an ebony board. I even changed pickups and put the same bridge and tailpiece as my Les Pauls on mine. And disconnected the tone pots. Still darker.
The neck is actually my favorite part about my Steckel.
Mine has really nice aging as well. They did a great job on it.
Isn’t that bridge pickup closer to the neck (further from the bridge) vs an LP? I’d bet money that’s what you’re hearing
Interesting. Maybe that is why I jived with the Keya that I played. It's closer to the 25" scale my Jarrett Ibiza is and it felt familiar.Yeah man, damn. I never even noticed that.
The tail piece is also set further from the nut than a Les Paul. The bridge is 1/4” further from nut on the Knaggs.
The pickups are the same exact distance from the nut. So that puts the Knaggs bridge 1/4” further from the pickup.
That’s it, 100%.
I've got a Roxy in it now. So that will come out. I have a Throbak SLE-101+ set. That bridge will go in instead. It's a bright pickup and should add some bite.
LP vs. Knaggs:
- Nut to center of tailpiece:
LP R9 - 26 1/4”
Knaggs - 26 11/16”
———
- Nut to center line of bridge, treble side:
LP R9 - 24 9/16”
Knaggs - 24 13/16”
———
Front edge of pickup ring to nut:
LP R9 - 22 3/16”
Knaggs - 22 3/16”
Appears as though the bridge pickup is placed closer to the neck pickup than a Gibson which would definitely cut aome highs.Steckel model is the way to go 100%. I've got one and it's really good. On the darker side tonally, though. I've heard they generally are, but I can't really figure out why. It's the same mahogany/maple mix as a Les Paul.
Good catchIsn’t that bridge pickup closer to the neck (further from the bridge) vs an LP? I’d bet money that’s what you’re hearing
I can smell Stevens wifes panties all over this axe
Still not as close together than a PRS SantanaGood catch
