I think I need to give up on new MIM Charvels. I haven’t gotten a good one since 2016. This takes the cake. As if the CNC guy didn’t see it, the painter should have. Or maybe the sander or buffer or even the assembly guy. Either a whole lot of zero shits given or simply a culture of “just get it out the door.

This is a brand new guitar. The neck was flawless but on the bass side the tone was very dull or muted. I thought. Probable old string from the strings from the factory. I remove the trem to prepare for a setup and this.

Dude, that sucks. I think they're getting overvalued. I got lucky with mine and want another one, but they're too hit or miss.

I saw the crack/knot through the spring cavity. Not only ugly, but certainly affects the structure and resonance

Here’s another kicker. I brought it back to the store 12 noon yesterday and showed it to them. Bu 6PM it was tagged and back on the rack being sold as new.

That’s bullshit.
GC did the same exact thing with my friends bass.

Even if mint, theyre still not quite as magical. They can be very close though.

Why do keep buying them then if you think they suck. Just setting yourself up for aggravation. ?

Just stick with a used USA or MiJ from 08-11....I've never played a dog from those years. Some were a bit 'stiff' playing but all sounded good to great, some rival the Charvel Customs I've owned. Like the Candy Plum and Candy Blue I have now.

Can you share which store? Also, do you still rate Chubtone? Would you stick with paying a bit more for Chubtone, on other words?

This was at Arlington. Hands down the Chubs without blinking any eye. With the Chubtone’s you also get to see the build progress of every guitar on Instagram. I got the Charvel because i wanted some variety. It had an Ebony neck vs my Chubs both being 1pc maple necks

I picked this up from reverb. Should get it this week. It’s a 2013 MIM, but I’ve had great luck with those and the specs were still good, 1/4 sawn necks.

That sucks. I don’t know Charvel started doing semi-hollow guitars

You should see some of the garbage coming out of the Charvel custom shop. I’ve seen THREE in the past month with cracked fretboards. WTF.

Too bad you have to take the neck off to adjust the truss rod. (n)

Don't know why, but the Jacksons out of the same factory seem to be better quality.

I live in a Texas and we have very stable humidity. I don’t gig and the humidity is pretty consistent at between 40-50%. Usually I’d I get a guitar that has already been set up with 9’s. I rarely have to make an adjustment and if I do, it’s once and done. On the flip side it’s not much worse that having the loosen the nut and the retaining bar on a neck side truss.

Quality can always be hit or miss, even if you have a long streak of wins and think you've found a good year or years of production. Even those USA Pro Mods from 08 and 09, I can personally say I had one that was dead sounding (despite all attempts to correct) even though the best one I owned rivaled custom shop quality. I've had some recent MIM Charvels (Satchel model) and they were pretty solid. Just got my most recent CS Charvel in last week, brand new just delivered to the dealer and straight to me, and it's pretty much flawless and huge tone.

Good luck with the new blue one, I hope that one works out for you.
