Glad you had an awesome visit!

If I'm ever in Chicago, this is one spot I've been wanting visit/buy from for years. It's funny you played #8 as I was just reading about it in Guitarist Magazine. This was my favorite top! What a beauty.

I've always considered myself a LP guy, but here lately I find myself playing my Tele (with a hot rails HB) more often than not just because of the weight. I can't play long sets with a heavy guitar anymore. It kills my shoulder. I'd love to find a nice LP that is as light as my Tele...

Bad part is, I'm only 30 years old. This post makes me sound like an old fogey.

I've got a 2009 chambered LP Standard that is lighter than my 2000 ash tele. Some people like them, some don't. They are light though.

I live in the Chicago area and do not want to even step foot into that store!!!

of the chambered LPs (all of them in the 1st pic are chambered clearance) this was my favorite too, and it was the very lightest. These guitars are significantly lighter than your typical weight relieved LPs.

Ever see an 8 yr old that has no talent play a 3K Les Paul cranked thru a 100 watt Marshall Stack ?

No, but I HAVE seen a 50 year old that has no talent play a 2K Les Paul cranked thru a Friedman-modded 100 watt Marshall Stack. Does that count?

Sorry man, but when the fruit is hanging that low, it HAS to be picked.

WTF man?! I resemble that remark.

Heading to Chicago the last week of January for some training. Looks like a place I need to visit.

Military?

I just got out of the USAF. When you're in town hit me up and we can grab a beer and check the shop out if you'd like

I didnt like any of those LP's.

Also if im dropping 4K on a Historic LP, i don't want it to be played by every Tom, Dick n Harry.

One of the reasons Mars Music folded was cuz they let just anyone play and damage stock.

I like the Joe Walsh sig or the Pearly Gates.
I think this store is a little different then your average gc, doubt there are many 8yr olds there to grab and abuse the nice stuff. Not to mention that these are still guitars and meant to be played.

FWIW, I ended up getting an R9 Lemonburst "Yamano" handpicked collectors choice.

Thing plays like a dream... And ya, looks incredible.

I saw a spread on CME in one on my magazines and I thought "hmmmmm, flights to Chicago.....".

Great post! Thanks

anyone ever go to black market music in san Francisco before it closed? there was one in la and nyc also, but the one in san fran was huge and the last time I was there, there must have been at least 250 les pauls. the place was huge and the entire back area was covered in les pauls. they were all used, every make, model, and from amazing condition to guitars on the brink of destruction. they ranged in price from around 650 to 1000. of course, this was 1994. I picked up a couple les pauls that day. got one of the nicer playing/sounding/looking standards I have ever played. that place was truly les paul heaven. the los angeles store had quite a few also, but nothing compared to san fran. I am bummed that place is gone. it was HUGE filled to the rim with the coolest gear ever!!
