Man, I really dug the 2525H, but as they all say, it just makes you want the big boy.

I'm pleased with my Splawn, but it ain't a fire-breathing Marshall. However, the loop volume is sheer genius, and I'm wondering if the 2555X won't be so forgiving. I found a deal on a brand new one, and have it in my cart!

If you're into the 25/50 watt circuit, try to land an original 2553 or 2554. If the price is too good to pass, get the 2555X. The SJ loop is one of the best.

I tracked down an original 2553. Really one of the best/easiest to dial in Marshalls I have ever owned. Go for it.

I got a grey tolex 2553 a few weeks ago and am liking it. Still might flip it in order to fund one of the black full size ones on SW when they get more stock. Just can't decide.

They have a great taper on the MV, best of any production Marshall. The 2555x will also let you use any 4 or 2 different pairs of octal tubes, with outside (top of chassis) bias points. I ran 2 6550s with 2 6L6s for a while, then 4 KT88s. KT 90s went in next, and if you like the big tone of KT88s you'll love 4 KT 90s. Like the biggest baddest KT88 tone on the planet with EL34 mids. I say go for it.

I had 5 of the originals, the loops were all good in them. I'd bet the reissues are at least as good. I have the 2525c now, and it does sound good.. but I'll have to admit I've been looking for a 2555x or original head to trade into myself. Dammit!! It never stops. Lol.

I love my 2555SL's.... sound best cranked up but you can still get a decent practice at home volume too.

Is the reissue as good as the original? Thats the big question.
New parts vs older parts... different tubes... new LED's sound a bit brighter/crispier than the original... original uses JCM power... variances in pot values... At the end of the day, a good 1/3 octave EQ is a SJ's best friend, though, not a must-have. I'd be happy with either one.

If you plan on using a Synergy module with the SJ, know that the effects return is positioned pre tone stack. This is cool, because if gives you awesome tone shaping options that you don't get with other Marshall amplifiers.

I had a 1988 2250. It was the best Marshall that I have ever owned. One of the few amps I seriously regret selling. It had "that" tone. I used to got with it in "half" power mode and crack the fuck out of it. Just huge Marshall tone.

I wish I would’ve pulled the trigger when they were blowing out the reissues. They are solid amps

I'm use to using diode clipping pedals + Super Bass 100. The SJ has that vibe, only smoother. Much better EQ section as well. I'd still love to get my hands on a nice 2203.

So did you press order?

I have 2 and I can not say enough great things about them. Both '89, a 2555 & a 2550. I picked the 2550 up here about a month ago and have lost my mind ever since! In fact I was so blown away by the 2550 that I jumped all over a local deal on a 2555. I knew instantly that this was gonna be a main tone for me and needed a back up lol. I've owned so many damn JCM's that I had really giving up on every nailing down that tone that I hear from others. Trying every pedal that I could to dial in that tone. As soon as I fired up the 2550 I fell in love. This is how a Marshall should sound! Best Master volume taper on any Marshall that I have touched. Both the 2550 and the 2555 have a sweet spot on the volume knob just passed high noon but both sound so thick and full at a whisper of a bedroom volume. Reminds me of Diezel's low volume distortion feel. Everything is right there from the start.
Marshall really dialed these amps in. First time that I can say that both are extremely close in tone and feel. I can line up 10 JCM800's and all will sound different. I've had a few good ones and some very forgettable ones. The Jub's are very consistent. All the knobs work and are noticeable from 1-10.
To the op I'd go for it. I can't imagine the new ones would suck. I've yet to be able to compare the new vs. the old side by side but from all the clips I've heard the newer one seems a tad bit brighter.

The 2550 that I owned was an '89 as well. Mine had a basket weave grill cloth. It is the only amp that I have flipped that I instantly regretted getting rid of.

I bought a head and matching cab for $1800 when they were blowing em out.
I wanted to love the amp, but ended up not caring for it. My JMP 2204, Friedman JJ and the Runt 50 I traded it for all sounded better, imo. I think I'd go for an older one, or a Slash Sig, if I were looking for that sound again.

Here's my smallbox 2553. I still love my 1987xl more, but I'll hold onto this one I think.
