I was pondering this the other day. What ever happened to the Lounge? Not a bar, not a pub. The old 80's Lounge.

I dunno. I did know some people who had lounges but they had bars in them too. Usually those people were heavy-ish smokers and drinkers and most of them are dead now. I have a pretty sweet porch if you ever wanna drop by for a beer or whiskey sometime.

Yeah man. I was so young but I remember going to lounges with family members. There was always some lady named Shelia, leather coats, smoky as fuck. Dark at 1 pm. A neon sign illuminating a small corner, glinting off some glass. A back door barely open, suggesting the only true sunlight available.

I remember going to get-togethers with my parents in the early 80's where one of the mom's would make aspic. That stuff seemed kind of gross but also seemed like peak American culture. I haven't seen anyone serve aspic in years.

Seems like this kind of stuff we are talking about will be the "tall tales" we will tell a new generation if we survive a nuclear holocaust.

Lounges....My old man's co-worker used to have a smoking lounge down in his basement. No liquor, just a small stand with a bunch of pipes, tobacco, tamper, pipe zippo, and a "hi-fi" unit that overlooked the lake. He'd have his hunting dog down there with him and smoke his pipe and wear those side zip ankle height shitkickers. I think he played Frogger down there too cause he beat the game. He had burnt orange and piss yellow vinyl chairs with decorative brass tacks you kind of sat down in, not on. He was a pretty close family friend for years, hunting and fishing, but he went nuts during covid and became a shut in just him and his old lady sitting around the house for two years wearing masks watching MSM without leaving and won't associate with any of us now since we are unclean anti-vaxxers in his view. It's unreal.

If you grew in one of America's armpits in the 80's or early 90's your mom still had the same couch.

I definitely knew ppl that had those in the 90s. Along with giant oversized leather ones.
