-Brad Gilli's rig with OZZY-

-(the best live tone I've ever heard)-
He played a MESA stereo rig I think it was the MK III.

Brad's tone on the live Ozzy stuff IS magic, and supposedly a Mark IIB.

That AC/DC vid was amazing. Flick of the switch is one of my favorite albums. Just raw.

Ranger was here last summer 2016 he has always been a MESA guy.

One of my all time fav rigs has always been DeLeo's (STP) Demeter preamp/VHT power amp and Vox AC30 combo. Killer hard rock tone mixed with the jangle of the Vox.
I'd love to play that rig with a Les Paul.

Any of Petrucci's or ACDC's would be very fun too.

1982? Mark IIB definitely. Mark III didn't happen until late 85, IIC+ 84-85. My IIC+ is a late 1983 IIC upgrade. Speak of the Devil was released in Nov 82.

Man, I forgot about DeLeo's tone. I saw STP I guess about ten years ago, and his tone was awesome. So clear and saturated at the same time.

Anyone who does not say the EVH VH1 rig should be banned, IMHO. Just so you could speak with full authority in the endless EVH tone debates. "Well *I* played that rig once for several hours". Plus its the best toan ever.

-yeah but no one would believe you, cuz they new someone who was there when you played Eddie's rig, but it didn't have the Jose nob on the back, and BILLY BLADES had that amp yesterday and he verified that it was a completely stock JMP!! well minus the cup holder!

John Syke's Blue Murder Rig 1989 - The Mesa Colosseum cranked full with a Black Beauty running Dirty Finger pickups.
Just a big fat 80s over produced sound for some fun

Yngwie's Rising Force 1984 rig - 70-71 50W Marshall JMP 50w Metal Fronts turned up loud, 70s strat scalloped with DiMarzio HS-3, DOD250
A haunting violin style sound

Iron Maiden Power Slave rig - Dimarzio Super distortion pickups, JCM800's and Martin Birch
First album I fell in love here so might be a little bias but the tone gave me shivers esspecially on 2 Minutes to Midnight and The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner

Racer X Second Heat 1987 - 70's Marshall 50w head w/Lee Jackson mod and then live they used stock ADA pre-amp into Ampeg V-4 head
Attack and delay heavy really made each note being picked sound loud whilst legato runs sound washy

Stratovarius Destiny 1998 - No one knows what he played on this album, some say Laney some say Messa.
All I know is that I liked it, solos had a cocked Wah feel to them. Not to everyones taste

Walter Trout The Outsider 2008 - Stock 1973 Strat into a Mesa Boogie mark 4 with a Mesa Leslie speaker on the side
Pure blues, no faff

For digital I wouldn't mind playing Devin Townsends rig just for fun

Malcolm Young's 400w Wizard thru 8 quads or the Marshall JCM 800 "2000" 250w monster in this video. Mal's tone is lethal.

I had one of those JCM 2000 amps in white tolex from the factory, got it from some kid for 75 bucks. It sounded awful dude, you don't want one, believe me.

Easy

Hendrix Monterey Rig

That is what a guitar amp should sound like

Raw, acoustic and in your face. power stage on
that setup was pretty magical

So many great ones to choose from. Off the top of my head: EVH on the 1984 tour, whatever Eric Johnson was using on Forty Mile Town, and I'll take Michael R/T's Marshall Major too. Also, the last couple of times I've seen Nuno, his tone has been killer, so I'd like to play through whatever combination he's using. (Which may be a DSL, Bill Lawrence bridge pickup and maybe a pedal out front. Nothing boutique or special, but it just works big time)!

Randy's Blizzard/Diary tour rig. Some people hate his tone but the live rig sounded aggressive and huge. Best backdrop and stage setup ever as well. The steps and the medieval backdrop were perfection.

-ahhhhh yes! Michael-(MIDAS!!, and everything he touches turns to gold!. Errr... Make that mustard!)-R.T.'s MAJOR! how could we forget!

-good call on Randy's rig, never understood the hate on his town, I saw Randy on the Blizzard & Diary tours, maybe its one of those deals where you had to be there, live, Randy's tone was ferocious!!

Angus from late 70's and Fly On The Wall sessions.
Humble Pie from early 70's
Gary Moore mid 80's
Brian Setzer
Brian May late 70's, early 80's
James Hetfield Justice tour

Dare I even say Eddie rig circa 1978?

^^^^^ I'm down with that...good call bud.

I'm surprised that only we said that. Usually when it comes to tone, amps, etc.. Ed is a high thread count.

I thought everyone would've at least mentioned it..
