I agree with the above - the Peavey Wolfgang’s are a step above the best. However, because of their rarity and scarceness, mine stays cased most of the time too. My Les Pauls get most of my play time currently.

My Wolfgang was my dream guitar and I waited for an emerald green one to become available. Killed all Wolfgang GAS instantly. Go Peavey or not at all.

Can't find a good deal!

There's a black USA Standard (excellent condition) for $1200 on Reverb right now...says pick up only, but everything is negotiable. You aren't going to find anything better than that.

Interesting^
My Peavey Wolf is an amazing guitar- perfect for me.
I was so excited when the HP2 was announced. They used NOS parts so this is essentially a Wolfgang. I can confirm this as I have them side by side and the guitar is near identical. The differences to me are the pickups are not the same. The HP2 allows for split coil options, so they voiced the pickups to be more friendly for this new diversity of tones. As far as straight humbucking sound, this means it is more 'normal' or flat/less hyped compared to the Wolf. Good pickups, but I like the Wolf better. Plus I don't use the split coil, so that change I do not prefer.
But the curious part is the aging- the Wolf feels amazing, and although it arrived virtually mint, I think the aging really added to the great feel. The HP2 feels the same - but not because it has this 'new' feel. I am sure with lots of play or 10 years go by and it will have that cozy feel. Your comments above kind of confirm that for me.

I actually have the HP2 for sale as I am moving this summer, which means my band is blowing up and I need to free up cash. But if one loves the Peavey USA Wolf, one should really look into the HP2. As soon as they ran out of NOS parts they stopped making them, but there's still a bunch available online as this was recent.
My Peavey Wolf is a custom shop hard tail with maple top, so it's hard to compare it to my HP2 (black arch top), but the pickups are fairly similar. I prefer the bridge humbucker in the Wolf and neck humbucker in the HP2, which seems very similar to an Air Norton that's in the Axis and EVH EBBMs. In fact I even reached out to PV to buy some of their pickups but I haven't got a response.

Which HP2 do you plan on selling?

I have a Moonburst. It is beautiful in person.
The sale is kind of on hold as I need to replace the nut- I can't seem to clamp it down (?)
Waiting on a Peavey response, I bought it new just about a year ago and rarely used it as I have a fleet of axes.
I think I listed it here but not anywhere else yet

They're only going up in value. 10 years ago when I had my wolfgang special, I sold it for the same price that I bought it. These days they're commanding even higher prices (especially standards and custom shops) since people are realizing nothing is touching the quality in the price range.

I wouldn't let mine go for anything less than 1800. I have original case candy to go with it, too.

Played this HP2 at GC today.. https://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/Peave ... wREALw_wcB

I was impressed with the build, neck was kinda fat, actually, and it was pretty nice. However, somebody dug up the front pickup routes where the adjustment screws are. Some gouges where somebody tried to adjust the pickups in the dark and missed the holes! Set up was crappy, huge bow in the neck, (needed straightened), and bridge was wonky, (springs needed loosened a tad).

However, if the price was right, I would have taken it. It felt really nice. But, typical GC, they want top dollar for used gear that needs TLC. Tried to get it for $800, failed.

I think that guitar was over 2k new....but yes, that is a lot of non-mint concerns

My favorite is the Music Man EVH/Axis. I think I prefer the Axis over the EVH. The Peavey comes-in second. I tried a few of the FMIC EVH models, but I wasn't hooked. I think it may be the vintage size frets, I don't know? They feel a bulkier than the others, but that's not really an issue. I play LP's, so...

I thought just the modern-day USA EVHs were vintage. My special is jumbo (I think?)
Which is odd that it would change

I have owned all of them. Just hate no arm contour!!!
