Got my hands on one today on clearance, but didn't take it home (just yet). That NECK!! So easy to play, slinky feeling, awesome DiMarzio pickups, killer top. Probably the best guitar I have ever put my hands on.

I don't like gold hardware but maybe I can forego that preference because of the purple quilt top.

GET IT, if it plays good but you are worried about purple/gold...that combo sells well. (Purple Rain)

I see that there is a 30th Anniversary Axis coming soon. Anyone know the price?

The one I played has the roasted maple neck. The 30th Anniversary does not.

Im of the mind set, that I pick a guitar up and I fall for it, that is the guitar im getting... not a cleaner one from the back, or ordering a different one, the exact one I fell in love with.

Ive seen a couple of EB Majesties that are on clearance at a store for what could be considered a pretty ridiculous price, if they had decent strings on it so I could actually play it with out fear of tetanus, I would probably already have one of them.

Don't let it get away, if it's that good.

Not into the Axis, and some other models, but I'm sold on EBMM; both the Kaizen 6 and Majesty 6. After getting my first Kaizen, it became my main/fav guitar; even though it's less versatile than the Majesty. The Majesty covers just about everything I want in a guitar; though adding a Roland GK would be even better.

I have a few of each now. The quality, fit, finish, playability, sound, etc., all consistently great...and should be for the price. They do not disappoint.

IME.

The 30th Anniversary Axis
Introducing the 30th Anniversary Axis guitar. To mark 30 years of the Axis, we’re revisiting the translucent finishes that defined its 1996 debut—Translucent Gold, Black, Pink, Red, Blue, and Purple—applied to hand-stained quilt maple tops and paired with black, lightly sparkled backs that subtly echo each color. Each guitar features a figured maple neck with stainless steel frets, glow-in-the-dark side dots, the original asymmetrical neck carve, and the sought-after DiMarzio® custom-wound pickups that helped define the Axis feel and sound. Finished with a color-matched headstock face, a 30th Anniversary Axis logo on the back, and limited to 100 Black, Pink, Purple, Blue and Red and 120 Gold instruments worldwide, every guitar ships with a certificate of authenticity and a deluxe Music Man® hardshell case. The 30th Anniversary Axis Guitar will be available this spring.

I remember playing one when I was just starting to play and it was hands down one of the best feeling guitars I remember playing. Ever. I wish they still made hardtail versions.

(Yes. I know I could block the tremolo. I just don’t want to)

I got Axis two weeks ago in trade. '02 Translucent Gold. That thing sound just massive and I am a Les Paul guy. Slinky feel, thicker neck, harmonically rich and still tight enough. The pickups are great but maybe too saturated for my taste. They feel like ToneZone/AirNorton combo and maple neck gives it more clarity.

I don't know which year this started, but the newer ones' pickups have 4 conductor wire, so you can have them rewired for coil splitting. The old EVH models' pickups are 2 conductor. I have a few of mine wired up for coil splitting and they sound great.

I'll be going to check out another quilt top Royal Amethyst tomorrow. If it plays as great as the initial one I played and is cosmetically flawless, I'll bring it home.

With everyone else. Grab it, if you bond with a guitar. If you sleep on it, go back a couple days later, and it's gone? It'll haunt you.

Update: Home sweet home! I went with this one instead of the first one I played. Plays the same. I really like the top on this because it is not as "quilty."
