Changed from original thread to one about my new pickups.

Recently received a neck pickup that uses an Alnico 4 magnet from Planet Tone. This thing rocks!

A lot of depth and punch but doesn't getting woofy. Top end is clear and present but not harsh. It has a nice driving sound, with lots of clarity.

I have a new set, but only have this one in for now, waiting on the bridge. Will be sure to post a full set review once it comes in.
I have the guitar wired up with just a Volume pot and 3 way toggle.

This is super versatile - sits at home with jazz and stays tight for heavy riffing! I was hoping the A4 would do that. The guitar is in D standard, and sometimes, pickups can be picky with lower tunings. So surprisingly fun to play with gain, which I am doing more than usual due to waiting on the bridge pickup.

These look absolutely killer as well - black covers with gold hex head polepieces. Will upload a Pic soon.

These pickups just look awesome to me.

The Black covers with the Gold hex polepieces are the mix I was looking for on this guitar.

How do they sound? They sound exactly like I hoped they would. The description nails it on the site. I was really thinking I would like what A4 magnets would do in this set, and I was right. I think they sound perfect in here.

I will do a comprehensive review once I get to really adjust and crank them but my initial reaction is A+ before tweaking anything at all.

Here is the description from the website:

Introducing the Road Pro IV Humbucker. Like the Session Pro IV, the Road Pro IV is still a rich, smooth and dynamic humbucker but with an extra helping of midrange. Slightly hotter for a bigger presence needed in “live” applications. Much like the Session Pro IV, it is ideal for the discerning musician who demands the highest quality in tonal warmth, balance but wants more drive out of their pickup.

The Road Pro IV humbucker offers strong sustain, a nice sparkling warmth with driving mids when needed. The top end has rich highs, nice chime with a wonderful vibrancy that is not thin but full. The humbucker is designed to be very responsive, clean and crisp with a luscious and smooth tonal voicing. The mids are perfect, not overpowering and compliment both the highs and lows to give a well rounded tone. The bottom end has a touch has a perfect driving response yet is still tight and punchy. The perfect pickup for the Road Pro guitarist.

Perfect for all styles of play.

Features:

  • Alnico IV magnets
  • Neck Output Approx. 9.0k
  • Bridge Output Approx. 12.0k
  • Wax Potted
  • All mounting hardware included
  • Hand made to order in the USA

hot. what guitar is that?

Rocking my Lacello in D standard with 11 gauge DAddario.

I have ZERO regrets replacing my Bareknuckle Silo set with these.

The lows are deep and rich, almost piano like in a certain regard. Very clear, and lush. Smooth, but vocal. These are an absolute dream to play clean.

The pickups are very touch sensitive, like they just want to go and push every detail but are never out of control in the top or low end.

Neck is rich and full but maintains character and is not boomy. The low end is articulate but holds punch and weight, just like the midrange. Top end is very clear and present but never thin or brittle.

The bridge is the perfect pairing. Extremely well balanced, while being clear, warm, and articulate.

Everything is very balanced but also has power and clarity. Some of the best clean tones out of any set I have tried. No joke.

Over to screaming lead and heavy riffing.

Yep. These do that too!!

I do not understand how these can have so much bass end hit without being loose or woofy in ANY regard.

Do not think these are bass heavy, they are not, they just have a nice range to them.

Extremely clear sounding but never harsh.

I am playing straight NASTY riffs and these just deliver.

The neck pickup is so much fun to play lead on its ridiculous. It is so tight and full and rich.

The bridge is so liquid smooth for lead work without ever letting the voice of the guitar sit in the background. It grabs harmonics and squeals easily. It provides a solid tonal basis that does not sound like it is lacking.

Very 'muscled' up, clear, authoritative set that somehow still sounds lush and laid back.

These have exceeded my expectations.
