I have a Randall RD412 cab, (matching Diavlo cab) that's very well-built, solid, triple-ported and loaded with V30's, (which is what it came with), but I later swapped out 2 for G12T-75's. It sounds huge, but it doesn't play nice with my JSX. At this point, I just want something new, (don't want to start the speaker swap rabbit hole cycle). I paid $649 for it new, (they were $849, but I got it in a blowout sale). I've had it listed for $200 on CL for MONTHS. Tire-kickers, and lowballers. I think $200 is a stupid good deal!

I'd really like to try an EVH 4x12 with the JSX, or, downsize to a 2x12, and load it myself with Creambacks, or other warmer beefier Greenbacks. But, I'm stuck with this damn 4x12, and don't have room for a second cab.

FWIW, I had a hell of a time selling a 1960 cab at one point a couple years back. Took 6 months to get $350 for it, and it was pristine.

Yeah, dumping 4x12's sucks. I recently got really lucky when a friend of mine took a Mills 4x12 off my hands.

I went thru something similar a few years back with an old Jackson cab, those ones from the 80s with the red speakers in them. I ended up just flat out donating it to the local rehearsal studio where I practice all the time and picked up a better cab and better head eventually. I probably could have traded it for rehearsal or future recording time but having the owner on good terms with my band was a good thing.

You're better off parting it out and selling the speakers individually, always a market for V30s and sometimes for 75s. Not many are going to buy a Randall cab when they can get a Marshall for close to the same money.

Yeah it’s hard selling 4x12. I had a 4x12 Avatar cab that I couldn't give away, it sat in my garage for 2 years until I finally hauled it off to the dump.

couple years back. took forever to sell my Splawn 4x12. finally sold it for $385 local. i went combo route and don’t think i’ll ever do that. my 2x12 was way easier to sell.

Maybe put it up for trade and then sell the item you trade it for?

If it was my 412 and I couldn't get rid of it I'd take it into the nearest Guitar Center and just dump it there. At least they'll give you something for it and it won't be shitting up your living space anymore.

I like the idea of the dumps but then again the inner pyro says to burn it lol

I went through a phase of selling or trading off my Peavey 212MS 2x12 stereo cabs and 412MS mono 4x12 cabs. I traded off the Peavey 4x12 cabs, then come to find out that people liked the Celestion G12K-85 speakers that came stock on both sets of cabs. I traded off the 212MS cabs, didn't get much money for trade in and found a Marshall JCM900 4x12 cab with 2 Celestion G12T-75 speakers loaded in it. I traded the cabs and other gear for that Marshall cab. I ended up installing that 1960A cab with a pair of Celestion G12C speakers (came out of Marshall Vintage Modern 4x12 cab, bought from a seller on TGP) on the top of the cab and installed a pair of Celestion Vintage 30 speakers on the bottom of the cab.

I agree it's hard to sell off 4x12 cabs unless there's a guitar player out there who likes the cab & speakers and how it sounds to the buyer. Plus the seller's always wants to come in and haggle over the price of a bargain 4x12 cab.

I have a Marshall MF280 cab on the block right now. It has the original V30MF speakers which I could most likely sell for just about what I have the cab listed for. Was hoping to keep the cab stock though for the next owner.

The cab looks great in my jam room so it is entirely possible that I part out the speakers and let the cab just be furniture.

Music stores have realized this as well. I can't remember the last time I saw a 4x12 at a music store. Same stores that stocked walls of them previously. They still stock 100w heads though.

have a 2x12 built by sour mash then pull 2 of the speakers from 4x12 sell the other 2 and throw the 4x12 cab out

That is crazy, I don't need a 4x12 but if I was local I would buy on principle alone.

Offer to part it out like racer said, maybe you can just sell the speakers. $200 is a steal.

hah dude, I've been so tempted to grab that from you, it really is a killer deal. I just don't have room for 1 more 4x12. The speakers alone are worth more. I can't believe people are low balling you at that price.

It blows my mind every time I see it pop up, that it hadn't been snagged yet.

Good luck with the sale bro.

just keep it for the next amp you get. its nice to have a few extra cabs, if you ever start jamming with people you can just leave it there. doesn't seem worth selling it for only $200 bucks.

Same here where I live. Tried to off my old Engls with English v30’s around the first of the year, and nothing but BS offers. Kept them, and turned one into a 2x12(reversible), and it worked good, so may do the other one soon. Just tired of heavy shit to lug around to rehearsals and/or gigs. Probably pick up a sour mash 2x12 for a couple of my v30’s, as I’m running a w/d/w rig right now, and off any extra speaks I have. If I’m real lazy I just take this little bastard rig now:

I pull the speakers and put them on the sidewalk if they dont sell

Damn, that sucks. I've had no trouble selling 4x12's in DFW. But then again I know a lot of musicians around.

I actually had a Randall 412 that only had two speakers (gk12-100's) in it sale for $250.

Avg going rate for a good (bogner, mesa, marshall 1960, etc..) used 4x12 here is about $500.

It's because of modelers......it'll only keep getting worse for the tube crowd.
