Everyone put aside their differences for a moment. This is worth looking into. Whether you are left wing or right wing, this will affect all of you. A big push to “protect the children” but we all know that is bogus at this point.

Key Aspects of Section 230
  • Definition: It states that "no provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider".
    • Protection for Moderation: It protects platforms from liability for "good faith" actions to restrict access to material that is obscene, harassing, or otherwise objectionable.
    • Scope: It covers a wide range of services, including social media platforms, websites, blogs, and ISPs.
    • Exceptions: Section 230 does not protect against violations of federal criminal law, copyright law, or certain sex-trafficking laws.

Arguments and Criticisms
  • Proponents: Argue that it is essential for free expression online, prevents frivolous lawsuits, and allows platforms to moderate content without fear of liability.
  • Critics: Some, including politicians, argue that it allows companies to either censor conservative viewpoints or fail to remove harmful, misleading information.
  • Proposed Reforms: Discussions focus on narrowing the immunity to hold platforms more accountable for harmful content, particularly in areas of illegal content or civil rights.

Potential Consequences of Repeal
  • Reduced Moderation: Platforms might stop moderating content entirely to avoid liability, or conversely, over-moderate to avoid risk.
  • Economic Impact: Repeal could lead to high legal costs for platforms, potentially harming competition, innovation, and the $2.6 trillion digital economy.
  • Internet Structure: The foundational nature of the law means its removal could dramatically alter how users interact online

Kids and children need protection especially from exploitation and sex trafficking on social media and platforms on the Internet in general but this is going too far on freedom/liberties. I'm against this and free speech is important. We can't put safety/security over liberty and freedom and at that point we aren't even living in America.

Honestly, as I have gotten older, I have found the internet to be far less interesting. It actually makes me more bored than sitting around and doing nothing. I'm not sure why. I have no social media, and have been using youtube mostly for music, but also to at least stay up to date with what is going on. But now, I don't even want to bother anymore. I think we can all say, regardless of your political views, that the things that are happening today are just crappy, and it brings us all down. I've become extremely pessimistic, and I just want to do other things now.

I still enjoy playing a computer game every now and then, but I can always play classic Doom without even needing the internet lol. I also want to get back into reading books. I still have plenty of stuff on my bookshelf that I have been meaning to revisit. I spent way too much time on the internet over the years. I mean I've been using it since the mid 90's. I'm pretty much over it at this point.

Yes I mean I feel in the sense where a lot of the analog we had before such as news papers, books and information in general hasn't changed but simply gone digital. The only thing I use social media for is just to keep up with news/information and that's it.

Nowadays I'm not even playing Apex or many video games especially as the integrity and namely quality has gone down IMO in terms of players and the games themselves too. How and why is another topic but yeah what does one expect when American Culture and Western institutions not only sell themselves out but their values too...... Ahem ahem EA Games/WWE/NFL.......

I'll play here and there just for old times sake but yeah it's just not the same

I feel the internet and quality Internet is like water where people deserve good internet/water and well integrity and quality is as important in that sense too IMO...... Unfortunately the water just ain't as clean as it used to be and well yeah as you said "things are just crappy" relative to just a few years ago in that sense despite technological advancements and huge ones relatively recently :dunno:

In a sense too talking about quality of games and players what I've noticed is there are also less and less competitive games. The uncompetitive games in the market outnumber and are more popular than the competitive ones now......

Competitive games allow for and require critical thinking..... Uncompetitive games do not and are simply repetitive and only requires one to go through the motions.....it's like Chess vs Tic Tac Toe. Something about that IMO that breeds complacency and mediocrity...... And well it isn't just in games but also something that sets in society in general and becomes a glue of society too.......

I just don't abide by it and well yeah as said...... Things are getting crappy relatively speaking in this aspect when it comes to critical thinking/cognitive thought in general IMO besides the internet or whatever else especially if this is the route that is taken.

I wasted many an hour playing Doom back then. IDDQD IDKFA and go to town.
I’ve been playing since it first came out in 1993. Game is still very much alive and the mods are absolutely endless. The modding community is insanely dedicated. IDDQD and IDKFA were used so many times back in the day. I don’t use them any longer, as I grew a pair and I’m not as terrified of some of the monsters lmao. I don’t think any game has held up as well as the original Doom. I still prefer it over modern games including the new Doom installments.

Games like that were actually hard...... And fun.

Unlike the new garbage now people and this generation in general are playing on average.
