This Garageband app is just too cool for getting ideas down and writing quickly. Now I see they have the Amazing Slow Downer app for like $15 - that's my next purchase. I might get the Apogee jam to plug in my guitar - it'd be cool to run the slow downer and garage band amp at the same time - but I'm not sure if that's really possible... Still this thing is awesome!

My mother has the full boat Ipad II with 3G and wireless and it is very cool, I want one now!

I've had your mother...her iPad was cool.

I snagged a refurb version 1 from Apple for $350 with full 1 year factory warranty and option to get the upgraded warranty. I got it just for Garageband so I didn't think I needed the fancy stuff - we'll see if that thinking was correct

oh my, and the thread goes south quickly...

Not trying to stir shit, but I am still trying to figure out how the iPad is nothing more than an over-sized iPod touch? You can get the same Amazing Slow Downer app for iPod touch or iPhone.. not sure about Garage Band though, but I bet it's there.

A 16gb iPad 2 is over $600, while a 32gb iPod touch that has WiFi and pretty much everything the iPad has (as far as I can tell) is $274.99 and it can fit in my pocket. :D

What's the benefit to having the iPad?

A bigger screen is appealing to me. I have an iPhone and I use it all the time. If I am not near my glasses I can't see the little screen at all.

I'm not in the market for one but it looks like a cool toy.

yeah, I can't imagine trying play the virtual instruments on the Touch.

I have an iPad 1 that my dad got me as a birthday gift.... I use it all the time but not as much as I though I was gonna use it, but I'm most of the time either using my studio iMac or my Laptop so.

So technically I am correct, the only difference is the size?

What's the benefit to having the iPad?

1. It's got a bigger screen. That alone makes it a completely different device, in terms of interfacing with it, using recording apps, synths, guitar modelers, etc.

2. GB is not available for iPhone, and this app alone is worthwhile, as are Multitrack DAW and Looptastic HD (the latter being way better than on a smaller screen).

3. A 16GB iPad 2 is $499. A 32GB iPod touch is $299.

4. You cannot use the camera connector kit with the iPhone to use various USB devices like you can with the iPad. At least not that I've read, and none have so far worked for me.

I have both an iPhone and an iPad, both 32GB. I don't really use them for the same things all the time, and both have allowed me to travel with just the iPad+iPhone, instead of always needing a laptop.

Cool, I suppose I see the use in that.

I see a price of $629.99 at Best Buy for the 16gb iPad 2 though. Just a quick google search: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Apple%26%23 ... Id=2341061

So to me it's not worth more than twice the money, but it does look pretty cool none the less.

Well, now I see the one for $499.... interesting...

I have the 64gb with 3g and luv it. I use it for work along with my iPhone. I use an app that allows me to manage several jobs and attach sub contractors from my contacts to each job. When my teen is on my macbook pro I use the iP2 (haha funny iP2  ) and now I get magazine subscriptions like Premier Guitar or Construction/Designer mags on it and it makes reading them easier, plusalways having them on the ips when I go meet a client I can bookmark/show a page to them if need be. The mags will have links that you can just touch and be at the website in 2 seconds. Really bad though for the music mags, I can click links and have gas faster.

GB is really cool on it and I am getting the Jam for it also $29 bucks and headphone jack built in. Perfect if I am watching TV or working and need a break or have an idea. I have made samples and ringtones with it also for my iPhone. The built in mic captures your voice really well also. BIG :2thumbsup:

Oh yeah also a business write off for me. :D

I have to admit the Garageband app looks pretty sweet.

cool thanks!

I grabbed the ipad 1 16gb refurb from apple too...love it. I'm going to try the Jam as I've tried both the iRig and Peavey AmpKit and they both sucked big time. They go in through the headphone jack and I really believe that is their downfall...it causes massive noise and feedback that way. The Jam goes in through the dock and hopefully stops the issues I was having. I do know that the ampkit app works with the jam as well as garageband.

I saw the Jam also and was thinking about getting that. The Jam by Apogee is $99 and I havent had any problems with Apogee.
