Got a great deal on a ipad mini that should be here this week. Looking to use it to learn songs, practice, basic recording, etc. Nothing extravagant. What are some good apps to get for guitar? What about connecting the guitar to the ipad? New at this. You young whippersnappers know all about these talking picture boxes and such.

Congrats!!!! I use a griffin studio connect as an interface. The apps I use the most are jam up and bias, and for what little recording I do I use GarageBand. Good luck with it!!

I'm going the iPad route myself. I've been checking out the PreSonus Audio Box iTwo and I'm pretty sure that's the interface I'm going with.

+1 on positive grid JamUp and Bias. Sounds pretty darn good when you get some juicy patches downloaded and/or dialed in. I've many times for silent jamming, recording crappy song ideas, exploring the nuances of tube amp options and tone, even killing time in a hotel room.

Bias and Jamup are probably the most well regarded modeling tools... Tabtoolkit and Guitartoolkit are useful as reference/practice tools. Garageband is really nice for recording. Audiobus is useful for tying apps together.

Which studioconnect? I see them ranging from $39.99 up to $150. With or without Lightning?? I don't even know what that is. The Griffin for $39.99 would be right up my alley as the ipad new is only costing me $99.

Found the info. Looks like I need the lightning connector.

Anyone actually use an ipad live in a band situation? This might work for me for rehearsals without our drummer plugged into the p.a.

I don't record music on my iPad but I use it to VNC into my MacBook. With this remote connection I can use the iPad to control my computer. Very handy for starting/stopping recording or launching a drum track in ezdrummer 2, etc.
I was looking at expensive DAW interface apps but I decided to go this route instead.
