Is anyone running a noise gate with their Bogner Fish?

If so what brand and how do you have it hooked up? Between the pre and power amp? I have a rack mount MXR smart gate pro and it kills the tone badly with the pre/power amp. But it works perfectly thru the fx loops of two heads.
