Is the SD JB pickup considered a tight pickup?

Definitely! Now I need to work on my cab or maybe get another one. It does not resonate that well with this amp, used to with my old Dual Recto but not so much with a Marshall. I did replace 2 of the v30s with GT75s. Has more cut and more upper mid range but still I think it could be better.

yeah, I think its the fact that the recto cab is oversized that makes it less than optimal

I love the JB... Few things to try -

- 500k pot on the volume
- disconnect tone control
- keep the pickup 3/16's from strings
- (last resort) try replacing the Alnico 5 magnet with an 8
which will tighten things up. The 2 will loosen the bottom
end...

I even replaced the EVH bridge pickup in my Ernie Ball Music Man EVH
guitar and it's a HELL OF A LOT TIGHTER than the Dimarzio bridge
pickup that was in there... it was just mush compared to the JB...
