I have no use for bitch mittens

You guys might want to look at my post. You may not have any use for them, but I suspect the guy is dealing with the same thing I am (focal dystonia) and I am definitely gonna try them and if they work, I wouldn't see anything gay or bitch-like about wearing them and actually being able to play without dealing with multiple injections directly into my hand muscles every three months...

Steve

I don't think there is anything gay or bitch like. I was just really surprised to see someone wearing a glove while playing. that would be great if it helps your hand issue. I remember a while back you were having a lot of trouble playing.
I still have trouble and the problem isn't in my hands it's in my brain. There is no cure for Focal Dystonia, unfortunately, so this isn't going away anytime soon. The botox shots into my finger muscles every three months are hit and miss. Sometimes they work really well, sometimes hardly at all. The glove supposedly can suppress the extra finger movements your brain is incorrectly sending to your hands, similarly to how the botox paralyzes your finger muscles just enough to ignore the extra finger movements.

If you are interested, here is how one guy explains the issue and how the glove helps him:

Why does Scott play bass with a glove on?

i would use the glove to beat off. it would remind me of my ex-wifes horrible blow jobs.
I'd say that the worst blowjob I ever got was still pretty good...

try getting a toothy blow job from a girl with cotton mouth on the beach who tries to use her sandy hands every so often!! I will pass.
I think I could still work with that... what's she look like? :D

Lol at the bj's

That's really awesome that they make gloves like these for the people who can use them. Hell I would use them just in hopes of keeping my hand warm in the winter.

Seems like big bends might be an issue but considering the handicaps some people have and still play well (like Django) I bet you'd get used to it. I'm not sure I get how it works for focal dystonia though. I had to look that up to see if maybe it could explain my playing...but no I just suck.

Yeah, I just meant that not having focal dystonia it's hard to understand. I still don't think I fully understand what it is. My fingers have lots of extra movements (adjacent fingers tend to want to follow their neighbor) but I don't think that's what this is. I think what I just described is fairly normal. But apparently this is a sort of cramping where the hand seizes up or shakes or similar?

on a different note, that would be great if those worked for you.

You'd know it if you had it...

In my case, whenever I try to make a two finger (index + pinky) bar chord, my middle and ring finger dive underneath the neck uncontrollably. It looks crazy! On other chords, those two fingers pull strings out of tune. There is also a tightness/cramping and down pulling sensation when using those fingers to play single notes. I can actually do better with single notes, but some things I used to do easily are now impossible. For instance a 11-12-14 fret legato run across the strings with index-middle-pinky. Just cannot happen anymore. Middle finger always lands short of a proper fingering on the string and is muted.

Sucks balls... Sometimes the botox shots help, but lots of times they don't and you can only get them once every three months...

Wonder if gloves would attenuate highs?

Nope, shouldn't. The vibrating string length is on the opposite side of the fret that your finger is on.

Interesting concept. I'd imagine getting the right fit would be a huge issue, not to mention keeping them clean.

The criticism here has me really scratching my head. It's not like this is cheating or anything, and if it's for a medical problem, then I see it as a really positive development.

How can anyone be so style-obsessed to call these gloves "bitch mittens?"

EDIT: sometimes even a toothy BJ can be a wonderful thing.

And the dude was playing really well imo. If a glove could help me play like that I'd be all over it...Sandy Toothy as well.

Glove doesn't bug me at all if it is for medical reasons.... the only thing I noticed was the tone potentially suffering from the glove against the string vs. finger. Maybe my imagination but I feel that glove softens attack some.
