Completely agree. Phenomenal production indeed. Such an amazing sound, tune, tone, song! I love this album from start to finish.

Saw him play it live last year and it was incredible.

Sounds pretty good for modern production. Doesn't have much character.
I much prefer Wired or Blow by Blow.

I don't care for all the processed low end from most modern recordings. The guitar sounds synthetic to me. I know that's what he's going for but I prefer the guitar to sound like one.just nitpicking because you asked. Different strokes.

Honestly, I was almost getting ready to comment "meh" because I'm not a huge Satriani fan, but damn, that production is indeed killer.

Are you talking about guitar instrumental albums only? Listen to anything John Leckie, Nigel Godrich, Butch Vig or Brendan O' Brian have worked on, they have done stuff that sounds absolutely amazing!!

I'm partial to 'Venus Isle' by Eric Johnson.
That is a magical one! Though there's a handful of vocal tracks in there.
I always loved Fire Garden Suite but I there's some vox there too.

I just Satriani a few weeks ago. Joe and his band were amazing. I did miss Stu Hamm though, but great show

I use ~ The Who - Live at Leeds ~ alot as a reference tone when setting up a amp. For my taste it is pretty much a perfect guitar sound.

That is a good one. That particular song and On Peregrine Wings from that album are on most of my playlists for listening in the car.

Well done for sure. I don't care for it one bit, I think it's fair to say it's objectively really good production.

Sounds great. The following video gives some interesting insight as to why....

As far as polished production I always thought later Yes and Def Leppard albums almost sounded too perfect. Whether or not the music was good the audio productions were amazing.

Van Halens 1984 on a very nice hifi setup always sounded amazing to me.

Not a massive Satch fan, but checked this out because of this post and I must say the production is superb. The guitar tone on Crazy Joey is absolutely brilliant.

The best-produced instrumental album is still Passion and Warfare in my book.

As far as production quality goes in terms of an instrumental album the pinnacle for me was Satriani's Extremist and disc one off of Time Machine in the early 90s. Rubina's Blue Sky Happiness and the title track from Time Machine are full of tone. It's just the right amount of space and nothing sounds sterile. I remember reading something a while back about extra time and care being given for amp choices/guitar laying and micing techniqes for the Extremist. The result is well worth it.
