If you decide to sell your Bogners (head & cab) let me know. I might be interested.

Where are you located?

I'm in So Cal. I spoke to you before Will about your Mako.

Oh   are you Purity S.G. or something from HCAF, I thought you recently had a XTC!

I did....and now I miss it!

I would especially be interested in your Uberkab but I would consider the head as well. BTW...did you ever sell the Mako or did you decide to keep it??

The Ecstasy, Modena and Herbert all sound similar at low volumes. All pretty good to me. The Diezel and Modena probably have an edge on the Ecstasy at super low volumes.

Your definition of super low volumes is probably my definition of low volume   after more time with the XTC, the Modena definitely did lower volumes really well. Which one do you prefer now after having more time with all 3?

I am kind of on the fence about the Mako, it has a killer Master Volume and is probably the best amp for my situation. I still have all my amps, probably going to decide what to sell this weekend when I have more time with everything.

I personally don't know why anyone cares what their amp sounds like turned down while playing at home. I rarely even turn mine on at home and even when I do, I don't care that much how it sounds. It's not like I have an audience to impress or anything. If you're talking about recording at home I can see that, but still........ Just get a Pod or Axe FX to record with IMO.

What if you only play at home and don't play in a band?

Right on. When you do decide what you're gonna sell, let me know. You can PM me or email me: gman5ohh@yahoo.com

yeah, the sweet spot is on 10 :D , but it's a plexi so what can you do. I've got a Hot Plate and a Ultimate Attenuator. I can bring them both to the ampfest if you want to check them out.

Plug your main head's speaker out into a Hotplate or load box......set Hotplate to load....run Hotplate's Line out to different amp's power section....turn up the main amps volume where it sounds good and turn down the HP's line out level to whatever volume you need....

Hmm, I hear alot of people doing this, guess I gotta try that out
I used to do this all the time in the early 90's then got away from it. Since I always bring two heads to gigs, I started slaving again....I put my main head up to around 4 (which is normally deafening) and adjust the power amp head to where it need to be. I do the same thing at home with my 100 watt plexi's....run them on about 8 yet still be able to talk over the volume.

Any recommendations on a power-amp to run it to?

EDIT: Nm I'm a idiot I could just run it into another amp like you mentoined

It's more of a reason to play, I wouldn't want to play if my tones were shit to begin with, I tried the POD route and ended up not playing for a long time until I bought some tube amps again, maybe its just me but I just play for the enjoyment, I dont see myself being a fulltime musician anytime soon   . I could care less about impressing anyone, I just enjoy it. I also wanted to do recording at home as well.

While I understand that, I don't need an amp to enjoy playing. I even play my electrics while not plugged into anything. Not even a Rockman. FWIW, I've never played an amp that I like a LOT that sounds as good at talking volumes. They're all too loud to play at the sweet spot while at home IMO. /shrug It has more (to me) to do with how much air the speakers are pushing than how much the tubes are cooking. So even IF the amp had the same exact tone on 1 as on 10, it still wouldn't sound as good to me because the speakers wouldn't be moving enough.

The worse is the Splawn QR   That thing shakes walls!

If you put something like a Rocktron intellifex in the loop, and turn the level down, it works REALLY well as a Master Volume, you can damn near get whisper levels that sound good. Might be worth a try...

That is exactly how I use my Rocktron Xpression with the Mark IV. Sounds great!

The Boogie Mark Series can't be beat for low volumes. Diezels and very good as well as the Engl's for low volumes.

Yeah just pick whichever amp you want to play thru and plug the line out into another amps FX loop return.

I used to run a modded plexi as my main amp....slaved then into my FX units into two mid 70's 2203's. I rerouted the low gain input to go into the power amp section so those were my power amps....sometimes I used an old McIntosh tube power amp, that was cool!

I did something similar: Soldano and a Marshall into a loadbox (Kitty Hawk). From the amps line outs into FX into a VHT 2502 (set to Class A or whatever it was) - perfect bedroom wankage possible.
A bit heavy/plenty to move that stuff to gigs though

George!

Can this be done with a 5150 and a JCM800?

I only have a effects loop on the 5150 (and its not the best effects loop)

Keen to "try" this out.

:)

I actually don't think the XTC sounds too bad at low volumes. The Mark IV has more of a "loud" tone to it when it's wound down, but the XTC works fine IMO. Obviously it sounds better cranked up, but I can get big fat thick tones at lowish volumes quite easily. I'm talking below 9:00 on the masters.

That said, I generally use my Mark IV for lower volume playing, but I have been using the XTC the past few days and I've been absolutely LOVING the tone.

No doubt the XTC sounds awesome, it just that for it's high price tag I am not able to utilize it. I just picked up a Rackmount Mark IV, so I am going to do a MIDI racksetup again for the Mark IV

Yeah the Quickrod isn't the best option for low volume playing

The Mark IV is very manageable though, I have no issues playing in the basement with it while others are sleeping upstairs

I'm suprised you mentioned Bogner as problematic though, both Uberschall's I owned were very bedroom friendly haven't tried the XTC though :)

Yeah Chris, it will work with those amps. You just need a loadbox of some sort. I used a Rocktron Juice Extractor years ago...worked really well. A Hotplate is what I'm using now. One Wizard slaved into another....
