There are two models of this. The regular ISP Decimator and the Decimator II G string, which is about $200 + bucks.

I guess with the G string, you can run it through your effects loop?

I'm not sure what's the best thing to do. I do use overdrive pedals in front of my tube amp. So I would put the ISP in the amps loop and the guitar > OD > amp as usual?

Thanks

I run it (pedal) in front...best 40 bucks I've ever spent. Used of course..

I have both, on different pedal boards along with the Rackmounted version. I like the G string pedal on a high gain amp that's a little noisey or a channel switcher as it will adjust the gate threshold down when you are running clean and not kill the input. If you are playing with a single channel, cleanish or really quiet amp, there is really no need to use the G string, the regular decimator will work fine out in front behind your OD pedals.

There's also a Decimator 2 which I highly recommend. Quieter, faster gating less weird noises. Whichever you get you can run it in the loop or out front i would suggest both if you've got lots of hiss and are playing with a crazy amount of gain.

I used the standard Decimator for a while, met my needs very well. My newer head is has way more gain, and the orig. Decimator was cutting it. Tried a friend's Dec II, still didn't do it. Got a G String II - the thing is a life saver, I thought nothing could cure my noise issues.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I don't really do cleans, so I'm wondering what the best way to hook it up if I'm using my MKV and a OD pedal.

Anyone else prefer the cheapo Boss NS-2? I've always felt it has a more natural gating effect compared to the Decimator. The ISP seems to add a artificial quality to the tone, and the way it gates is more sudden and unnatural, doesn't have that smooth cut off when doing start, stop riffing like the NS-2.

Maybe the G string version has fixed these issues?? I had the first version of the pedal.

I always prefer the noise gate in front of the amp, last in the chain.

Didn't Buck say the Decimator II tracks faster than the rack versions?
