I've always thought Mesa Mavericks were cool.

I never played the head though only the 2x12 or 4x10. Just another cool amp that Mesa made that didn't seem to catch on. They've made some duds in their time and they seem obsessed over "Brit" tone, they still have come up some good one's.

Yeah, I was surprised the Maverick didn't fare better. It's a great platform for cleans and mid-gain tones.

My buddy has a Maverick combo & it sounds great! Cool amp

Had a head and liked it, profiled the crap out of it with my kemper before I traded it off. It reminded me of a marshall 18/vox ac30 on steroids. They still sell pretty cheaply when you can find them. I liked the maverick about 100x better than the stiletto, personally.

I'm thinking that maybe the Lonestar was the Maverick replacement. Andy Timmons said he liked the Maverick more but they stopped making it.

The guitarist in a MN band called Down Lo used a Mav and I was always floored by his live tone.

Nice amp. I had one about a year. Montrose was using them at one point in the late 90's

Precursor to the lonestar series but simpler circuit and better tone. This and the Blue Angel never were a big hit during the grunge phase of music so they were dropped. I used to beg my friend to trade me
When I had my Lonestar.

I think the maverick being in the rectifier series threw some off. The deon posted sounds good, seems like a cool amp.

Wow - never even heard of that amp before. That clip sounded great!

I had one for a while, though it was only a 1x12 combo. I liked what it did. Would have liked a head/cab or 2x12 much better.

Oh GOD. The 2x12" combo weighed a TON!! :aww:

I can imagine it did, but I put up with 2x12 heartbreaker, and term-o-verb. I could have handled it. :D

Yeah, the Maverick was a great amp that deserved more attention than it got. I too think of it as the simpler ancestor of the Lone Star.

The 4x10 combo must weigh as much as a Volkswagon.

Yeah, I can confirm its a hernia inducing beast. I gigged with my 4-10" for about a year and frequently had to move it myself when it really is a two man job. But what a glorious sounding amp. Absolute magic with a Strat or Tele and takes pedals in the front end like a champ. Driven with humbuckers into a 4-12 with GBs is fat chewey rock and roll perfection. I rarely play mine these days and have been ready to part with it a couple times... until I plugged in and strummed a few chords.
