Ive gotten burned by bogus sellers so many times on "reverb" that i now get most "pedals n parts" off Amazon.

I have a lot of stuff I’d like to sell, but hate the thought of doing it. So many ways to get screwed and I lack the patience to deal with people 😆. Need to thin the herd, though, so I need a plan 🤔
I do too until I reached 30 guitars, 12 amps and a wall of pedals and had to do something.
I took 3 guitars and 5 amps to a local store and put on consignment. The store takes 15% but it’s no hassle, no customer interaction, no returns or anything. They play before they buy and take it or leave it. Reverb charges a total of 8.19% so I don’t mind giving up another 6.81% for no hassle sales.

Craigslist and FBMP work great for me, use em all the time. But yeah you have to interact with other humans

I have been scammed twice. First time I used eBay and PayPal… sold a parker nightly and instead of making a deposit they pulled the money out. Overdrew my account and took well over a month to get my money back. I was still fucked and lost my ass. My Greco from Japan was the second time. It’s the Sykes Paul with the kahler. Well it was the standard model that someone put a kahler copy on. The sellers from Japan are usually just dudes hitting the music stores hustling..they don’t know. I got it for a great price so no big deal…

Last pedal i bought off reverb was an EQ. Instead he mailed me a delay. Imma like "how fucking hard is it to mail something" ?
One of the dumbest seller ive dealt with.
In over 20 yrs ive never changed as a buyer but folks gonna take advantage wherever they can.

There are fake/counterfeit pickups and parts on amazon too so def be wary

You get stuff from Amazon sometimes and it comes from some small middle man company. The packaging seems odd or sketchy at times

Sweetwater gear exchange has been pretty good for me

I need to give it a try. It’s only a 90 minute drive for me…
The gear exchange is online. Do not take your guitar to the store. They will lowball the hell out of you just like a normal guitar shop.

Also, you can get great deals in the Used section since you live close by it’s fun to drop in sometimes.

I bought a SUHR modern and Taylor 12 string there over the years. Just stopped in a couple days ago on a business trip, almost pulled the trigger on a Tyler, but I’ll probably never buy one of those.

I’ve sold a Gibson, another Taylor, and some random pedals on the platform.
