Good stuff! I should dig my old Thin Lizzy out, used to love that album.

Pretty sure it's a Phaser...

I can tell you they are between keys. I want to say not quite a half step down.

A lot is the speakers, pre Rola Celestion's sound like that.

Jailbreak version, more than likely a Phase 90,45 or MXR Flanger. I know Scott used the MXR Flange some. Kinda sounds more like a phase here though.
Peel Sessions - clearly the Wah and then more flange sounding on the call and response.

Supposedly his basic rig back then was Superleads, Les Paul Deluxes w/ minibuckers (he wouldn't route them for humbuckers until around the Johnny the Fox era or Live and Dangerous...it varies), Colorsound Wah, 2 Wem Copicat Echo units...one as a booster. He didn't start playing the custom until '77. So all those early albums are mini buckers for both he and Gorham which no doubts gives them somewhat of a unique sound. All that was picked up from his techs on other forums.

Thx a lot for the info!

I saw a old video with a shot of his pedalboard once, thought I saw a Phase 100

That wouldn't surprise me either...it's got something going on there that's a bit different than a 90....why I was thinking maybe a 45. I know the old rig diagrams you can dig up show the 45 and 90 plus the Blue Box but it does sound different.

I read somewhere that he was using the mxr 100 at that time...

yep phaser and speaker break up is a huge part of the tone....such a great sound

Great thread, big Thin Lizzy fan. going to give my orange box phasor and see how close I can get.

"Gary Moore - After the War": Marshall JCM800 2203 100w, all MXR effects ~ chorus, phase, delay, overdrive and a whole lotta talent.

Gary was not big on guitar effects, he was big on tone and his priceless fingers. (R.I.P. Estepona - alcohol)
