I'm a big fan of German beer - my wife is Bavarian from a little town an hour south of Munich. I've been to Okotoberfest. It was a blast.

Actually if you look at the photo you can see the cuckoo clock in the background reflected in the mirror as well lol

Same here. Always my preference.

One word:
Reinheitsgebot.

I do think it's great you tried it - I give you 10 kangaroos ??????????for the taste test lol
Yup, 10 kangaroos ?????????? from me too.

You put a fair bit on your bread. I’d usually have less coverage than that...
I thought so too. Less Vegemite and more butter is my prescription.

Brother Brian, glad to hear you're going to try it in soups. I recommend stews and casseroles too.

Another one worth trying IMHO is Our Mate. It's 86% yeast extract.

It tastes like it's got way-less salt in it and has a "purer" / more-focussed taste, which might actually make it better for soups, casseroles and stews:

Rather than starting a new thread, i thought i'd glom onto this already existing thread, as someone from the US that has never had vegemite before, and tried it just now for the first time.
I gotta say, i really like it! I didn't get much beer flavor or aroma, but it did have a vegetable stock smell. Very savory, definitely salty,
Combined with the butter on the toast, it is a very tasty unique flavor. I put what i would consider a "medium" amount of vegemite on the toast. I could see where going super heavy on it could def be a little too much.
Also thank you for pointing out that it does not need refrigeration, i was going to ask about that.
I'm glad i bought it and will enjoy eating it. Always enjoy trying new things.
I concur with the 7/10 kangaroos rating as well.

Been looking up some recipes using vegemite, saw one using vegemite with lamb.
I love lamb so i'm keen to try it.
But it looks like there are a million ways to use it so i'll be trying it out on different things.
Edit- i'm thinking this would be so good with runny eggs.

You can use it as a stock for sure honestly I just use it on bread/toast 99% of the time. It doesn't need refrigerating because of the salt content mostly I think. Glad you like it. It's definately my favourite thing on hot bread straight out of the oven.

I don't actually understand why you hear so many Americans say yuck when they try it. Especially women on youtube. I think they are expecting nutella or something sweet. That goes for pies too. Most Americans just have sweet desert pies like apple pie or pumpkin pie... Pies don't have to be sweet. There are so many nice meat pie varieties too.

My wife's family is Scottish & they love their pies & peas!
And now i love them too.
I think it's just so different from most other toast spreads, like you said many prefer things on the sweeter side?

It's obviously also the facts that they're putting too much into their mouths at-once and on-its-own as opposed to thinly spread on buttered bread or toast.

Glad you like it Brother Robo.

Good point.
This stuff isn't peanut butter like TP said. Gotta go easy with it.

Indeed.

Most of the clips of tourists and celebs doing "the taste test" I've seen over the years involved dunking teaspoons into jars and putting the things in their mouths.

Not gonna work... unless you want a funny result.

Trying it tomorrow with eggs for breakfast i think.
What about combining the butter and the vegemite ahead of time?

You used to be able to buy it that way but the product was discontinued IIRC.

My guess is that it's impractical to second-guess what peeps' ideal ratio is.
