Jazz VS 59?

How do these pickups compare?

Right now I have a Duncan Custom (sh5) in the bridge of my Schecter with a Jazz in the neck.

In my other guitar I have an EMG 85 in the neck, and I love it. (cleans aren't great but the lead sounds are)

I like the Jazz a lot for clean and things like that, but it just doesn't have any thickness to it when I go for any sort of distorted tones. I really like a nice smooth glassy lead tone from a neck pick up.

So I was wondering how the 59 compared to the Jazz.
Can it still do the nice cleans, yet have enough oomph for lead tones?

Are there any other duncan options I'm over looking? Pearlygates maybe?

Jazz sounds more fat, with tons of low end & has no mid & high spike that 59 has.

Can it still do the nice cleans, yet have enough oomph for lead tones?

Yes & no, kind of depends on your tones & you amps. 59er sounds killer with my 101B.

yeah I've found even with my mids dimed its hard to the thickness out of the Jazz.

And as far as cleans go, my blackface module is GREAT for that. I can even get usable cleans out of my EMG 81 with it beleive it or not. I think I'll try and get my friends C-1 Blackjack over to my house for a day or so and try it out. (has 59 in the neck and is same guitar basically)

The Jazz sounds great in the neck of 22 fret guitars. Nice and clear. In 24 fret guitars I prefer the '59. The Jazz is thin in 24 fretters due to it being closer to the bridge.

Interesting.
I think I just need to try one out.

Hows the pearly gates in the neck?
Any others I should consider?
