Tried Dunlop Jazz III picks for the first time in 47 years of playing

No matter how many times i test different pics, i always come back to the Jazz III XL. I prefer the black ones to the red ones as they are made of a stiffer material and have a more crisp attack. I only wished they made them in 1,5 mm.

I have the Black XLs coming, I will give them a try.
So far I think I prefer the Black regular Jazz IIIs

.73 yellow dunlop tortex forever but cool picks are fun. the .50 evh picks are cool for acoustic.

For .73 work, I am really liking these at the moment. I think these are slightly wider and less round on the shoulders than the standard flow so that bit extra feels good.

Jazz IIIs are the ultimate pick, welcome to the brotherhood.
I’ve been using them for 30 ish yrs. Great pick. I also use V picks, blue something…can’t remember exactly but it’s great as well. Bigger, and seems my guitar is a touch more resonant using them.
But you can’t go wrong with the red Jazz III

I always use the same pick for electric or acoustic, should I be using a thinner pick?
depends on style of music and your role.
not for flatpickers/bluegrass solo-ey guys but rhythm chord strummer/vocalists might dig it—less KLONG and inadvertent string catching, more even brushy hihat vibes. i like it in the arsenal.

here’s some neat ones:

doyle dykes gave me that thumbpick, my daughter in law gave me the engraved wood box/pick, and tribute Keef stuck the stones pick to my forehead at a really fun corporate gig🤣

I better stick with heavy for my style, thanks

Welcome to the club Howie.

I've been through a bunch too (minus the Red) and I keep coming back to the Jazz III, with a slight preference to the Tortex version due to less slippage.

I find myself grabbing the Black Stiffo Jazz IIIs

I have tried 5 different ones....
the Jazz III Black Stiffo is my favorite.
The XLs are too large.

You might like the Petrucci Jazz III. It is right in between the Jazz III and Jazz III XL.

I love the Jazz iii XL's. It's the Goldilocks size for me, sometimes i find the regular Jazz iii's a little too small

I've narrowed it down, my two favorites are the regular Red Jazz IIIs and the Black Stiffo Jazz IIIs.
I am probably going to use the Reds most often, but it is close.

I don't know how you guys play with picks that thick.. I played the old jazz purple 2.0 mm for the first 10 years I played guitar but then settled in on the .71 - .81 range before recently trying 1.0 again and thinking that might be the ticket. But as i said further up, these standard flow picks at .73 are pulling me back down to the thin dark side. They slap just enough but are more rigid than other picks in that gauge I find and the bit of grip is nice. I think I really like pick attack and definition. You sit there with picks and you see exactly how they affect tone on single notes on the neck pickup. It's actually quite eye opening in terms of all the small things that go into " tone".
