The JB with an A2 magnet is the shiz. Don't care for it otherwise, though I could live with it using 250k pots.

Rumor has it Adam Jones uses one in all of his Silverbursts.

but then again "they" say he uses and Epilady.

for the record, four of my fids have JB's in the bridge.

It isn't a rumor. Just listen to the nasally highs and high-mid bite he gets. That's all a product of the JB.

Anyone know a way to get the speed knobs safely off a Gibson without breaking them?

Just pull. Flawless. Or slip the handles of a plastic bag under the knobs and twist. Twist hard. So hard. Yeah. Then pull. Flawless.

Thanks will do. Wish I had a 300 pot here right now. :)

In my limited experience, the JB is one of my favourite pickups. There's not such a big boutique market in the UK and my favourite brand is Bareknuckle but the JB is still an excellent pickup for a variety of styles.

Regarding this from above...
That's been my experience as well with DiMarzio's bridge pickups, exactly as you said. Very round, no cut or power.

really?

This is using a DiMarzio D-Activator...and I think it cuts and is tight as all hell...

Demartini has a sig. pup now and so does Cantrell so not sure they count but their pups are based on it.

IMO I think they count do because most of their signature recorded tones weren't done with their recent pickups.

I don't mean to offend bro, if that's what you thought. They're just not my thing. I'm not at my home studio right now, so I can't give an honest listen to your clip, but in my experience the D-Activators were different in the sense that they weren't the typical DiMarzio round sound, but I found them to be fizzy and/or buzzy. Too much upper midrange power and they sounded dull in the low end to me. They're sitting in the bottom of my drawer, guess they just weren't my thing.

no offense to me, just since the D-activators are my only DiMarzio experience, it just differs from the rest of the percieved notion, as these in the right guitar, DO cut pretty well...Upper Midrange is all Cut in a guitar.

I just put a JB in my super strat and replaced the air zone... what a difference. Crunch and the mids I wanted. Harmonics back in check.. it isn't even F spaced and it is doing the trick quite nicely!

I always keep a JB on active duty, there are some tones you just can´t pull off without one.

I just switched my J.B. for a Dimarzio X2N same tone as a J.B. except hotter and harmonics, pinch harmonics roll off of the fret board easier..
Had the J.b. in this particular guitar since 94-95.. Took out the X2N and put the J.b. back in.. Now I want to put the X2N back in :aww:

Well I just had a ground wire loose. Fixed that digging it with the volume rolled back for raunchy riffing. A tad to compressed for my liking with it all the way up, but cool if I need it. I actually wish it had a bit more bite/teeth just on the very highest of highs. I may experiment with tone caps because I am using some old ass paper in oil kind that probably add more richness. I still may try the resistor trick though just to hear the "mids". I may like it better. Its a pretty versatile pickup I like the different shades of rock tones with the volume knob. Mine doesn't clean up that great, but it gets cool distortion tones along the way. Which in many ways is much better.

Update: I added the 1m resistor across the pot. Sounds MASSIVE now ( thanks guys for the tips!). Huge difference in tone. I am not sure if its for me just yet, but I am gonna play around with it for awhile. I miss the raw ZZ top like high end sizzle, but it now sounds like how I imagined a custom Les Paul to sound. The weight of the guitar matches more with the tone now. I may try a 750 resistor to bring a little more high end back in. After hearing how thick it is I will miss that if I go back to stock. At the same time I miss some treble just depends on what I am going for. Raw old school rock I miss the highs, but that was with the volume backed off with less compression. Heavy thick shit it's great though, and running two amps at once I may not changed anything then. Friggin sweet! Great pickup to experiment on with it being so well balanced.
