I've had the JCM800 Studio, 2525H, SV20H, and now the 900 Studio. It kicks ass!

Mine came new with TAD Redbase short-bottle 6L6GC-MSTR's, and it thumps! Great bass on tap to where I don't really need an EQ in the loop, as I thought it would be lacking. But I am running a Sonic Stomp with my multiFX, and it's killer!

Great high gain Marshall tones, and it takes a boost well. Thrash metal heavenly! And the master isn't bad, you can get great tones at low volume, even at full power. I really dug the mini Jubilee, but this one kicks ass just as well, with more thump. It's definitely the best in the Studio line, for my tastes!

There's not much out there on these, doesn't seem like people are all that interested, but they did voice it warmer and less bright. Tone controls are super effective in carving out a nice, fat, punchy tone.

Good to know. I have been contemplating getting a Marshall studio amp again.. I have had Jube, SC20 and SV20 and liked all of them.. leaning towards the SC20 again I was afraid maybe the Studio 900 would sound kinda brittle compared to the others, particularly the SC and SV.. I notice that brittle thing with the newer DSL, the Jube and also even on the JVM but all the reviews have been good on the 900 that I have read. Will it still do the classic, Michael Schenker, Scorpions, Maiden, etc. or is it more 90's sound? I have been thinking on pulling to the trigger on the combo just to have a little all in one amp for around the house.. . cool it has a 12" speaker and built in reverb. Is it better than the other studio series at low volume? I think it has a 1 watt setting? anyway. Thanks for the review. Tempted to grab one!

Interesting. I have had the SC20, SV20, and the mini Jube as well. Didn't know that Marshall made a mini 900 until last night when I watched The Studio Rats vid when they toured Marshall recently. Sounds like it might be worth a look.

It'll cover it all. Has the Marshall bark, just have to get the mids around 1:00 o'clock. They voiced it to be less brittle, but can get plenty bright if you get crazy with the presence and treble.

Awesome! I had a feeling you were going to like it.

I think I totally missed they released a 900 model.

I'm not questioning the tone, I'm sure it sounds good. My question is what is the point of a Studio JCM900 when you can pick up a used 50-100 watt one for less?

I understand the point of the other Studio amps; lower wattage for NMV so you can push it harder with a little less volume or better price over vintage. But the Studio 900 doesn't really fit into either of these situations. Maybe that's why there's not much out there on them. :dunno:

Anyway, congrats! I'm glad you are enjoying yours.

It’s strange that it’s a good thing it sounds nothing at all like an original 900.
The clips I’ve heard sounded great. 👍

Apparently the studio 900 isn't like the bigger amps. The studio 900 circuit is just different and sounds really good in the demos I've heard. Whatever this circuit is, they should scale it up to a 50 or 100 watt model and release that as a 900 Reborn or whatever.

That makes a lot more sense if it's a different circuit rather than a lower watt JCM900. But that being the case the 900 nomenclature is a little misleading. I bet if they marketed it as an original design for the Studio series and named it as such there'd be more talk about it.

900 studio vs PT2? How would you say they compare?

I can't understand all the negivity on TGP and the old HC on the 900s
I bought my 4500 head new in 93 and couldn't be happier with it.

Its not an 800 or improvement on an 800.
It has its own thing going on. Its a 900.

I only use the clean channel so thats all that matters to me

I was thinking this as well!!

i remember reading they did something different with these than the big ones, i forgot what though

Its because it's not a Plexi or a JCM800.....

Its considered a "Metal" amp which it is of course but yeah in a sea of shoe gazing morons and worship music playing ass hats along with your lawyers and dentist.......

It just doesn't get the love it should or deserves, the ones with reverb were awesome IMO and delivers some classic high gain tones.

900 dual reverbs have always been great amps for metal. Funny because guys love the 8100 valvestates but the dual reverbs are just as good. Solid state mixed with tubes. The valvestates have more gain, but the dual reverbs will bury them with a good boost. Wish I still had my voodoo modded 2010.
