If memory serves, the 900 was drier and tighter, with a little less available gain.900 studio vs PT2? How would you say they compare?
900 is beefier, and a tad more aggressive.900 studio vs PT2? How would you say they compare?
It does have a tad less gain. I have to run it near 3:00 o'clock and hit it with a boost. Definitely more gain than the 2525, and a good bit more than the 800. Not much less than the PT V2, but less. Noticeably more punch. If memory serves, the 900 was drier and tighter, with a little less available gain.
I have known about the Studio 900 for awhile and almost bought one. These videos were steering me that way when they came out:It does have a tad less gain. The lead tones aren't as harmonically rich, but it's more than acceptable. It gives me the rhythm tones in spades..
In hind sight that’s still a legit choice. When I was an extreme tone noob, I went to a music store to buy my first Marshall half stack. Tried out the 900's with 1960A cabs and the Valvestate with the smaller Valvestate matching cab. I bought the Valvestate. True story.![]()
Shocker…@napalmdeath I see you have it for sale already.. what happened? I'm telling you, you need to get the Synergy 20IR. Those modules would be much easier and cheaper to flip.
Though I just built the Mojotone Brit 50 and it is the best amp I've ever played. I may be addicted to building them now.
It’s strange that it’s a good thing it sounds nothing at all like an original 900.
The clips I’ve heard sounded great.![]()
It sounds great.. I'm on the fence about the FX Loop. You really have to find the sweet spot. This one has a level knob, and lower levels, (where you'd think you'd want it for pedal effects), sucks tone too low. I really got it cooking today with some volume and found unity at about 9:00 o'clock on the loop level knob. If you go much past 10:00 with pedals, it gets too hot.@napalmdeath I see you have it for sale already.. what happened? I'm telling you, you need to get the Synergy 20IR. I just got the Fryette PS-2A and love it. I honestly don't need it with my MV amps because I can get the great tones with pedals at low volumes. But, I don't have to worry about the amp having a loop now and plan on building a Plexi and a couple of Fenders that I will get good use of it.It sounds great.. I'm on the fence about the FX Loop. I'm kicking around a Fryette PS-2A, and using its loop. I figure what the hell, the PS is great to have no matter what.
The 900 is still a great sounding amp. The loop is just kinda iffy..
Yeah, that was my thought process too. You're not so limited. If I decided to move on from the 900, there's ALOT of great amps with no loop that have always been a deal breaker for me. Kinda like the Soldano Avenger 50 watt I came across used.. It has a loop, but its the shitty one the OG Hot Rods had.I just got the Fryette PS-2A and love it.
