I played a decatone extensively that a guitarist in an old band of mine had and was never that impressed, honestly. He later got an SLO which was drastically better IMO. There's a very noticeable difference in tone and feel, IMO. If that's just due to the transformers, so be it, but it's a big difference.

Transformers are a HUGE huge part of an amps sound.

+1 and Transformers are a huge part of the amps weight. :D

Yeah, and sometimes people prefer the cheaper x-formers and the HR circuit, like Gary Moore who used SLOs first and then switched to HRs.

the only difference in the slo models is the ground by pass on the preamp tubes.the transformers are over built. and do not forget about the cabs are some of the best.some of the slo gos back the to the fender bassmen

The tubes in your pics are Shuguangs. Ruby is a vendor like Groove Tubes and sources tubes from Shuguang, as do others. In essence you do have "Ruby" tubes in your amp, they just haven't been rebranded with the Ruby Logo.

I believe the first 6 slo amps were MOD'd from a Mesa mk III and in the Mesa shell. according to the history of the Slo amp. :scared:

all the other Soldano circuits are tweaks of the SLO to make it different enough that you cant skip out on the flagship to save cash. like $10 to mod the others to SLO.

EDIT: 100H to SLO mod outlined here:

I've done that "SLO" mod to both my JCA50H and 100H, and it makes a pretty noticeable difference, for the better. Well worth the $20 in parts.
