What about the "Modern" switch? Could this be done to the JCA20H, and if so what exactly would it do to the tone of the BE? Is the Modern switch HBE only?

Dave, can you only mod the 20 watter? What about the 50 and 100 watt models?

I have not done a mod on the bigger ones yet but I am sure they can be done.

Are the bigger ones up for modding all ready?

If its anything like the Marsha's Brown Eye then cleans should be no problem with rolling off your volume on the guitar.. I get great cleans even with the Sat switch on, but Im using lower output pickups.. My question is , would this thing be loud enough to keep up with a drummer? If it would work as a backup to my Marsha incase of an emergency at a gig that would be great.. It would be a lot easier bringing that than 2 full sized heads to gig every weekend.

Just got done playing my 2nd show this weekend.. I used my Marsha for her 1st 2 gigs and it was great.. BE annd sometimes the c45 all night.. Just a little bit of delay in certain spots.. I didn't even like using the delays because the BE crunch was so great :D

I tried the JCA20 today. It had the Friedman BE and SAT on it and I was blown away by the tone. First of all it's gotta be the loudest 20 watts I've ever heard. No problem at all keeping up with a band and the tone was incredible. For the price it's a killer amp.

yep, played Beyond Black's modded jca20h at Paul's house over the weekend...friggin incredible sounding...both the BE and the SAT mods! just WOW

i'd like to add that the friedman modded jca20h amp needs NO boost, period! this is a bad-ass little amp that's totally capable of anything from ac/dc to vh(on the BE mod)...to Ratt,Dokken, early Metallica(on the SATURATION mode)....your axe,a pick,an instrument cable, the amp,a cab,a speaker cable ;) NOTHING ELSE IS NEEDED!!! ok,maybe a wall outlet to plug the damn thing into

(and if ur mailman1971,a scummy USPS knit hat,a case of beer and a big,fat "doobie" wouldnt hurt either) ;) :D

I concur gentlemen. This thing flat out fucking rips. Played tonight for about three hours. Straight in and loud. 4x12 with SB's, no boost, saturation off.

Tis thing sounds great at low volume, but when turned up to about 5 without the sat on, or 6 with it on, thing thing is a fucking beast. More than enough gain without pedals. The pure tone coming out of this amp is nothing short of amazing. Dave knocked this one out of the ballpark. It is so warm and thick, and can also be very aggressive. Honestly, this is the best $450 gear purchase that I have ever made (used). Everyone should have one of these.

Has anyone had the 1 X 12 combo modded? Does the addition of reverb on those models pose any issues? Nice grab & go combo would fit the bill for me more than a head and cab right now.

WOW! MF must not be able to move any of those. So you get reverb and a 12" speaker for $34 less than the head. Can't beat that! I just we could buy them modded already. :aww:

I have a question if you guys don't mind: I have a Matchless Avalon 30 head and Roccaforte Custom 30 head. Both use El84 and have almost similiar characters. This JCA20 BES+Loop sounds very cool indeed, however I'd like to know what the difference is between the modded JCA20 and JCA50/100, tonewise. Since the bigger brothers use 6L6, they appear more reasonable alongside my other heads.

Dave is a legend and BES would definetly carry my tones to another dimension, hopefully territory of Soldano and Marshall on steroids :) So, I am a bit confused here... Hold my hand :D

Those little amps sound amazing! I also prefer the BE to the HBE when hearing both.. personally a little boost if ever required is not against my rules. I noticed the jet packs, does anyone know if they'll plan to target the 100 watters with Friedman's mods in the near future?
