Hey dudes,

Well I got a JCA22H with coupon from MF for like $340. Damn good deal if you ask me. I was a bit skeptical of how it would sound but I can honestly say that it sounds allllmost identical to my Avenger w/ Deyoung trannies that I sold a while back.

Anyway. The amp arrived yesterday. The first time I turned it on I wasn't getting much sound. I sort of had to crank the gain and master to get any sound and even then it was not normal. Crackly, sort of fading in and out, etc. Say five minutes later the amp seemed to come alive and showed it's true sound.

I'm really diggin it!

Anyway. Fast forward to last night. It did the same thing when I initially turned it on. Crackly, weak sound then returned to normal. This morning it seemed fine.

Would this be a preamp tube? I don't want to have to deal with sending it back. I figure it's a tube of some sort. I've been thinking of upgrading the tubes anyway.

thanks

Joe

Not a Tech and I don't know, but I'd send it back if it keeps happening.

Could be a Power Supply thing..........if it's an unusually long time to warm up/power up.

Probably a bad tube. I'd replace tubes and if that doesn't work, just send it back and get a new one.

I had the same issue with a JCA100H. Was a bad bias pot. $.30 part and three solder joints and I'm back in business.

Replace those preamp tubes and try it out. If not , just put the original preamp tubes back in and send it back.

Thanks guys. I planned on buying new tubes anyway so I will try that. If it's a no go then back she goes.

i'd switch preamp tubes in and out first, and go from there.

my guess, is a bad PI tube, if it has one.
