Anyone have any info/clips of the purplexi? I have seen some pics of them and I know Lynch has a few. They look cool but I have no idea what they sound like.

well...Mr Lynch has ONE less because i own the "smallbox" version.(see below) :D

...long story short, mine was originally modded by mark cameron before it got to me.then i got a hold of it & decided to have it gained-up some more with some other added tones/features so i sent it off to dave friedman(couldnt get a hold of cameron at the time).dave sprinkled some of that "magic fairy dust" and voila, the amp NOW has all three of his popular mods: Brown Eye,Hairy Brown Eye & Custom45,which seems to be also called the "kitchen sink" mod which is found on dave's new custom-build MARSHA amp head.this is a SWEET amp.the tones from DF's mods cover everything from nailing VH1 up through 80's hair metal...   .now i saw a guy somewhat recently,on TGP,selling a bone stock Wigle Purplexi amp.i managed to save the "clip" he had listed with the TGP ad...here it is: https://www.soundclick.com/bands/default ... dID=434210 ...hope that helps.i believe Jimmy @ Groove Tubes still has one of these Purplexi's available for sale.it's the std-sized headshell from what i remember. :)

I recall Myles from GT spamming them on HC some years back, but never heard about them again.

yeah about a year ago, when i first got my Purplexi,i called Jim Wigle to ask some questions about the amp.he mentioned that he had one more available to sell  ...he may still have it.

Yeah that was mine once upon a time. Not ONCE.....but TWICE!! :D
Now its in Neddo's hands and its a Friedman MONSTER!
I talked to Jim Wigle myself and he mentioned he had a Large box that was Lynch's 'FAVE" for sale at 2K.
Not sure if he still has it or not.
Here is his web site.

Pretty easy to get ahold of and answered all my emails right away.

Dan
Killer amps......
I am sure Ned will sell it back to me one day! ;) :D

Thanks for the replies guys, so is Jim still making these amps? On a custom order basis?

I believe he is, on a custom order basis. Very busy person. I have one of his first builds. It is a monster. It is a very highly tuned Marshall type. Not over the top gain, but very chewy chunky with clarity. The master volume is very well done as well. Great amp.

Murket, so is there anything you can compare it to gain wise? Cameron high gain? or not that much gain? Also, since you have one of the first builds, can you explain the control layout? Is it a simple master volume mod? or is there an added preamp. How many preamp tubes, what power tubes? sorry for the flood of questions but I'm very interested in these amps and info is hard to come by. thanks for your help.

That dipshit would spam anything that was destined to flop (bad products like GT's Mullard 12ax7, or hyping something that doesn't deliver, or, in this case, something that gets a lot of hype for a very short time, then falls off the face of the planet for most people)...like the proverbial opposite of Midas.

I always wanted to buy one, I came across one a few years back but had no cash and also was told it's really loud and wouldn't really work out for me cause it needs to be really loud.
I still wanna try one someday. I'm not sure it would have enough gain for me unless I boosted it.

There was some talk about them several years ago, at least here they never took off from what I remember.

I think Danhops had one, can't remember.

Actually the Wigle has one of the best masters ever.

That's good to know, I play at home these days but I play loud home vol.
I'm not talking about tv volume, I will have to buy one now.

Compare? not really. Thats why I bought it for its tone. Deff does the plexi, early evh, Steve Stevens, Lynch, Martini, Slash, all that chewy Marshall stuff. But you can dial in what you need as well for your tone. Layout is same as in pics prior. No added preamp tube, just three, El 34's~ but it can swallow just about any 8 pin power tube x 4.
The amp is what I wanted to hear in a finely built and tuned Marshall type Amp, it can do vintage plexi, to modern mayhem. The Master Volume is heaven, no sound gulp at all. The amp loves to be slammed by a lovepedal eternity. I tried my fav TS9... nope, loves the eternity.

Out of all the amps I have owned.........
that purplexi was probably the LOUDEST amp I played thru.
The volume jumped from like barely on to damn near sounding full blast in a partial turn on the volume.
Wasnt a problem for me..... :D
Maybe for my neighbors though!!
Great amp!!

Mailman how much gain we talkin here???? Can never have too much :D can you compare it to any othere amp out there?

I had it after Mark Cameron modded it.
It had good gain but was 'struggling' to do some heavy chugging. We do a variety of tunes and I needed a amp that could do some heavier stuff.
I got it from the guy that had it stock and I guess the stock gain was pretty weak as he told me, thats why he shipped it to Cameron to get it modded. But I read that the stock form can handle some Van Halen tunes but was flavored more towards AC/DC plexiish tones.
Hope my babbling helped a little. But the freaking amp was SUPER LOUD. I boosted it with a SD-1 and it still didnt have the 'over the top' gain but thats not what it was made for.
Sounded great though. I just needed some BRUTAL gain!!
