Jimi Hendrix smoked Eric Clapton

Maybe someone can help me out here...I'm quite honestly not very familiar with Clapton's work beyond the radio staples but I once heard a solo track from him on the radio (never heard it before or since) that had an absolutely incredible lead solo with some of the tastiest phrasing I'd ever heard from anyone. The only way I could narrow the search down is that it sounded very much like it came from the 80's, judging from the production and overall vibe. I probably heard this sometime in the 90s so any of his work post 2000 could be ruled out.
He had a double live album, I think called 24 Nights that I dug.
Maybe you'd find it there.
A run from Royal Albert Hall, 1990-1991

I used to try and play along with it years ago.

Wow dude, you think I’m engaging you but I’m not; your vitriol is misguided. If you look at Lightning’s post history, 90% of it is straight-up glazing the Soldano SLO100, which is why I originally posted the checkmate, since he loves that amp so much.

So, it was really a tongue-in-cheek dig at him for not saying Clapton, who played the fabled SLO that he had posted about over and over.

Hope things get better for you.

My responses was from early this morning. We’re cool no worries, buddy.

If I had to choose between signature Strats, I would want Eric’s (with a fret job). So I guess Eric is the better player. You know….science. 😂

While we'll never know what could have been had Jimi lived another 20-30 years and not fried his brain or body with drugs...I think he'd be challenging Jeff Beck and possibly surpassing him.

I also wondered about his thoughts on / response to Holdsworth, EVH and the '80s shredders, but I don't see him going down that path given his blues background.

I know Clapton is a legend but he’s never been a big inspiration to me. I do love some of his work though. Hendrix though… no comparison whatsoever. When I bought live in winterland and heard his version of sunshine of your love and tax free…. Fuck… Eric who? I can only imagine what he would be doing if he lived and got clean. So tragic…..

I don’t think Frank Marino gets enough cred on here… or Duane and dicky…. That whole band was killers imo… live at the Fillmore is insane. And it’s really live…no bullshit overdubs and studio takes. To my knowledge anyway. They took the best from two back to back shows….

Back in 1987 I lived across the street from Skyway bowling alley. Behind my house Jimi's Father Ale lived. I became good friends with Jimi's nephew Leon. We smoked a lot or weed and ate mushrooms together.
Leon had a lot of Jimi"s cloths and other personal belongings.
For me conversations about Jimi are kind of personal from years I was around his family. Definitely changed how I see music and the world. His vision was about the therapeutic spiritual healing power of music. The depth of feeling is beyond what most artist accomplish.

Forever Man or After Midnight maybe.

I started to look but when I did a quick Google search to jog my memory, there are a ton of great Clapton solo's that came out in the 80's and 90's! Will have to spend some time this evening reminding myself of that.
