Jimi Hendrix smoked Eric Clapton

Hendrix made history with his guitar twice as far as I could see. The Star-Spangled Banner at Woodstock,a historic event, a historic performance, and the burning of the guitar at the Monterey Pop Festival, which blew everybody away.
Hendrix was also of another generation. Actually a few generations back, so it’s not expected that younger guys are gonna be into it so much.

I hate when one player “smokes” another player almost as much as when an amp supposedly “smokes” another. It’s like sports people have infiltrated music. You’ll always find it tends to just be louder and more dominating tones that people claim is “smoking” the other.

Hendrix was cool and definitely pushed and pioneered guitar. Half of which was being in the right place and time to be given some cool new hardware - fuzz, Octavia, vibe, etc.

I’m not a huge listener or fan of either, but I appreciate what they both achieved at times. I’d listen to more Clapton songs than Hendrix these days. Was different when I was 20.

If you're speaking just about this guitar playing, sure. Was the most important electric guitarist of the last 60 years. But you know what? I've tried hard to appreciate his songwriting, but never really became my cup of tea. I appreciate him more as a guitarist than a composer.
