Just got my '79 2203 back from the shop last week and have been putting some hours on it. With a cheapo SD-1 out front it has tone to die for. And it's just fine without any pedals, especially for 70's classic rock.

Wow dude that sounds fantastic! It's hard to beat a boosted 2203 for the money. The band Power Trip uses a boosted 2203 and it sounds so killer.

Does sound really good but with the Gain at 8 that bright cap is not really doing anything to the tone. Thats just the way a good 800MV sounds at volume with the boost, congrats..

Dude, that is a killer tone. It not really a tone I go for especially with my low tuning or type of music I play, but I love that tone and it perfect for what you played. BTW, How did you record that?

There is a definitely a noticeable difference with the cap in there correctly now, even with the gain up. Not massive, but enough to make a difference and I definitely prefer it. More cut and aggression now.

Ah, gotcha. I have it on a push-pull and at high settings it does add just a touch of sizzle, especially when boosted but with gain maxed or really close to it I can't hear a difference.Bxlxaxkxe":3ko8pecd said:

That's essentially my jam, my rig for years. The bright cap is a must for cut. The reason people complain about them is because they play at low volume and can sound sort of brittle. If you want the goods you need that master up at least to 4-5 and then the pedal. Also the louder it goes, the more the treb and presence are out of play in that circuit so don't be afraid to push them up. That old Marshall VH gain comes in part to those controls being dimed. I love the sound of mine when I get the master up around 6 or 7 and then crank the presence. Really gives that crunch. Old mattias Jabs tone with the right pup.
