Amp ho
Just got the bright cap installed in this- nice and aggressive. Hitting it with an OD808 here.

There’s just something perfect about that circuit boosted with a good OD.

Phuck  I've had two JMP 2204s and neither sounded anywhere near that good boosted.

Sounds really great. I like the variety of music you played. What power tubes?

Just got my '79 2203 back from the shop last week and have been putting some hours on it. With a cheapo SD-1 out front it has tone to die for. And it's just fine without any pedals, especially for 70's classic rock.

Sounds great! What do you mean by bright cap installed? Do you mean put the stock value back in or some other value?

Wow dude that sounds fantastic! It's hard to beat a boosted 2203 for the money. The band Power Trip uses a boosted 2203 and it sounds so killer.

Does sound really good but with the Gain at 8 that bright cap is not really doing anything to the tone. Thats just the way a good 800MV sounds at volume with the boost, congrats..

Dude, that is a killer tone. It not really a tone I go for especially with my low tuning or type of music I play, but I love that tone and it perfect for what you played. BTW, How did you record that?

So I picked this up last summer and always dug it, but I had the chassis pulled recently and was looking everything over when I realized that the bright cap was not wired in correctly. You can check out the pictures/thread here:

There is a definitely a noticeable difference with the cap in there correctly now, even with the gain up. Not massive, but enough to make a difference and I definitely prefer it. More cut and aggression now.

Killer. I could never understand the peeps who disconnect, unsolder or just plain mess with any bright cap in a Marshall. I've bought a few with them pulled, and they completely lose their bite. Pretty much neuters the amp.

Ah, gotcha. I have it on a push-pull and at high settings it does add just a touch of sizzle, especially when boosted but with gain maxed or really close to it I can't hear a difference.

That's essentially my jam, my rig for years. The bright cap is a must for cut. The reason people complain about them is because they play at low volume and can sound sort of brittle. If you want the goods you need that master up at least to 4-5 and then the pedal. Also the louder it goes, the more the treb and presence are out of play in that circuit so don't be afraid to push them up. That old Marshall VH gain comes in part to those controls being dimed. I love the sound of mine when I get the master up around 6 or 7 and then crank the presence. Really gives that crunch. Old mattias Jabs tone with the right pup.

Man I keep thinking about doing the valvestorm kit for a jmp. This isn't helping my will power. Sounds good

that was fantastic man! Real good depth to the chunk. Really enjoyed it and your playing was excellent - very tight with no string noise. Just excellent!
