JMP mods before & after

here's the before. everything but the gain is noon, both gains dimed:

here's the after:

tone controls don't deviate much from noon, gains are both about 2:00 and pulled, MV pulled.

I am a bit confused, that looks like a NMV JMP so there aren't gain knobs...are you talking about the two volumes?

Also, in post mod description, can you explain your mod?

the descriptions on youtube clear all your questions up. i'll paraphrase here, though...

before it had two master volumes, one before and one after the phase inverter. i don't know who did that, or why, it was just like that when i got it.

after, i removed those MVs, added a jose MV, a contour, a depth, and pull brights on both gain (volume) knobs. i also seriously increased the gain.

and i forgot to apologize in advance for how craptastic the quality of the vids is

Clearly the difference in the clips is the missing dog crate in the second one...it was creating a phase cancelling reverb in the first clip leading to the thinner tone

THey both sound good, I just like the playing/riffs better in the 1st video.
I dont get into the drop D chuggy stuff much.
Maybe make both clips play both the same riffs for a better comparison.
Just my 2 cents.

But I like them both. Just cant really compare since they are different in the style of music being played.

From the vid I also prefer #1. More meaty and more crushing. #2 sounds less direct. Could be a volume difference though.

Personally, I prefer the first one too. More clarity & articulation. Although could just be the riffs too as someone stated.

I do like one better but I like how a PPIMV takes a little off the top. Best mod is both a PPIMV and a Jose with a defeatable diode switch.

i had the diode clipping going on in the second one for brootal gaynz.

turning that off opens the amp up considerably.

well, turning off the diode clipping goes a long way toward doing just that, and you could roll back the guitar volume for even more of that first clip type tone.

i'm going to take it to the store i frequent and get a couple guys that can do lead stuff to play it while i record. i think when you guys hear this thing doing leads, you'll like it a lot more.
