I especially like the gun metal gray "strat" he is holding in the first picture. The one that says Charvel on the headstock and the one that his real strats were modified to feel like. Think they're stock? How many 70's era big headstock strats have you ever seen with 22 frets? Entire new compound radius fingerboards installed onto those 70's strats to be something they were not originally.

Pickups? Jackson J-80's since the mid 80's. I have a couple of them and find them to be very meh sounding though Joe sounds great with them.

I doubt they remove the fingerboards...just pull the frets, add a fingerboard extension up the end for the 22nd, compound radius it with sandpaper and radius gauges and re-fret. Brad Gillis had a 22nd fret added to his red strat back in the 80s...not a whole new fingerboard.

I don't have the insert loop nor a PCM-41, but it still gets crazy close to Joe's tone. If i added the insert Loop and PCM-41, it would nail it 110%.

I actually saw him with ozzy the first time i saw ozzie and he absolutlely ripped it up tone for days, saw ozzy with zakk the 2nd time and it was equally as good just more pinch harmonics

You're probably right there. I had someone tell me that but your guess makes more sense.

I dont get the hype.

I think there's a mystique because he had a huge gig, was a great player but he never really capitalized on it and did much of anything else.
I've never heard him play other than that Farmiko track and there's nothing there we haven't heard before.
I'm interested to see what he does though.
