There is a José connection with Norum as well, there´s this great story from a swedish magazine where his old buddy Andy Laroqcue calls up John and asks if he wants to tag along with Andy and José over to 5150 and see what Eddie thinks about the newest mod. I think this is late 80s.
Andy LaRocque is the benchmark of guitar players!!!!

40+ yrs ago he may have recorded "a song" on scameron i may have read that on a D. Dooken album sleeve but he uses Marshall exclusively.
JN is of the highest caliber talent and im sure he wants nothing to do w/a criminal.

So I just came back to say that I had not listened to the full Another Destination album in over a decade and holy shit Norum absolutely rips on this thing. His vibrato and chops are so dialed in. I might even say he's at the peak of his playing in this era. The songs may not be the strongest but every solo is a rip your face off. I also have to say that the rythm playing on Another Destimation sort of reminds me of the Holmes Farmiko playing. The Cameron amp he has on here is def special. That's my way of saying I want that. :D

I would nearly make the arguement that his tone has gotten worse since the 90s. Like those first 3 solo albums he did, amazing and blazing. I dont know...I totally agree with you, that Album rips, so does Face the Truth.

He's kind of Gary Moore meets Yngwie, and probably one of the more underrated players you'd ever come across.

Yes! I hear Yngwie's speed, Schenker and Moore's vibrato, but the fast crazy too many notes in one box Gary Moore thing for sure. Reckless playing that sounds so damn good.

Just saw today that John is going to Hiwatt for the next tour, and some interesting tidbits.

Interesting! Those were some of his best tones too.. never knew they were Hiwatt or that Jabs used one of these as well. Need to check out how gainy these get. I feel like he has been rocking the 2205's for the longest time, I wonder why the switch now other than some sort of sponsorship?

While looking I was able to find the "gain mod" he will be using with his Hi-watts... here it is and will probably be filled by the DS-1 waza seen on his board. Eventually I will pick up one of these to use with my 800's. I've never actually tried a DS-1 if you can imagine that.

I actually saw that amp in Matthias's rack back in Nashville in '94. I always assumed it was for a clean tone. He also had an Engl in there as well as his Marshall which I believe was his longtime main amp. He also had some Hughes and Kettner cabs on stage if I remember correctly. I think they were also using some Soldano's at the time but I don't remember see that in his amp rack. They were HQ'd at the big amphitheater there doing rehearsals a few days before their show and I sat at the sound board for a couple days eating lunch and watching the Scorpions rehearse and argue amongst each other, especially the drummer. To this day still the tightest band I have ever heard live.
