I gotta say that after being a huge fan of Tipton and Downing, then melting to the power of Dimebag on VDOP, and then digging on Tommy Victor's (Prong) writing and live performances, there hasn't been much that catches my attention guitar-wise........... <<<<<longest run on sentence ever!!!!
HOWEVER, I saw John 5 play with RZ when they opened for Ozzy several years ago, and was impressed. I actually thought he did the Star Spangled Banner better than Zakk on that particular night. At any rate, I started YT'ing him recently cuz my bro in law met him and sent me some pic's of them together. Man I gotta say that even though I'm not into about 1/2 of the music he's done, he is still a friggin' sic player! I honestly can't think of any other "famous" player in the past 10-15 years that I've spent this much time watching, even though I don't like a good deal of the actual songs themselves.
I even like that he has the whole "Hollywood" alter ego thing going on, and comes across as really eccentric. He is a killer player, has a cool image, entertains like a broadway actor, and comes across as super freaky on stage. Yet he still sounds like a middle school kid who just found his weiner when talking about guitar and getting to play with some of his idols.
When I saw him stick his face in the bass players butt when playing live with Two (Halford singing), I almost fell out of my chair. He was playing like a monster even though the riff was basic, was dressed like a cheap tranny hooker, jumping around like a 12 year old on Ritalin, crossed with Billy Idol on guitar after whiffing up a pound of coke!!!!!!!!!!
WELL DONE SIR!!!!!!!
