John Mayer Leaving Fender

IMHO Beck and Johnson are most known for their fender thru Marshall tones especially Beck has played thru marshalls for years. Clapton is the only guy on that list that's alive and a major seller that I would say is most know for fender thru Fenders IMO. I see your point but still...just sayin

Oh no!

What a shame.

john mayer was such a huge talent pimping his Dairy Queen hot dogs.

I don't think that I will sleep tonight.

Clapton has also been known to play Gibsons, Soldanos and Martins quite a bit. None of which are Fender related.

Beck's last album was recorded entirely with a Fender amp. EJ's clean tone is gorgeous. Everyone talks about the violin tone but his clean is equally as good. He has even said that if he could only use one amp to play gig it would be a '65 Blackface Twin. I left out Jim Campilongo. Tele into Blackface Princeton. Nothing beats Fender into Fender for cleans.

Anyway, Mayer's a dick and a mediocre famous player at best.

I do agree fender into Fender is the clean tone...agree about Mayer as well. Always seemed super douche to me even though you're forced to admit he has some talent but still...douche doucherson. Don't care what Beck's latest is, to me he is Beck when he rocks fenders thru marshalls

This was the LOL of my day but I think John Mayer is more of a son of beast kind of guy. I also heard he's worked a metalzone and peavey rage 158 into his set up.

Beck's last album might have been recorded with a Fender, but he has toured extensively with Marshalls forever. That is the point. Most of these guys use a lot of different things. I mean, Beck is a Fender guy, but like Clapton used Gibsons for a long time as well. As for EJ, Cliffs of Dover, probably his biggest hit was recorded with his 335 through a Marshall? You can't really chain these guys to one thing.

I think he acts like a total dip, but I love his skills! I have a few John Mayer Strats! Though, I have so many things to pay for theyre getting listed for sale.

Id laugh if he went to BC RIch haha

and i am sad that he is leaving fender, i really liked his strats

Unfortunately I read a couple of his posts.......that guy is a narcissistic twit. Does he really believe his own blathering?

I actually think this one is pretty damn funny:

If you wanna get jumped by a bunch of strangers, just walk down the street and yell “I GOTTA SAY 2014 HAS BEEN A SPECTACULAR YEAR FOR ME!”

The dude can play. The trio stuff he did with Pino Palladino and Steve Jordan was damn good.

Not a huge fan (I do think he has great tone), the post was more interesting to me because of the "Fender-going-direct" conversation, wasn't sure if this move was related but the timing is interesting
First I agree with you on Mayer.

Second - that IS an interesting convo about 'Fender Going Direct'. The retail music business is tits up. Fender is big enough that they may be able to support an on-line only business model and maybe open a few 'Fender Stores' in select markets but man o man I would feel for the mom and pop shops out there that rely on their Fender relationship to keep their shop going.

:dunno:

Anyone else here have more intel on this? I'm purely speculating and have not followed what is going on in the market outside of the Guitar-Center rumblings on their financials.

id like to know more about this too. how wild all this stuff that is happening.

Nothing hits the soul quite like white boy blues.

Most of their endorsers would be gone, few play fenders thru fenders amps..

Eric Clapton (Marshall, Soldano, etc.)
Stevie Ray Vaughn (dumble, Marshall, etc.)
Jeff Beck (Marshall)
Eric Johnson (dumble, Marshall)
Richie Kotzen (Marshall, Cornford, Bogner, etc.)
Rory Gallagher (Vox)
Philip Sayce (Mystic, Marshall, etc.)

Just to name 7 fairly big names...

So of those guys listed, all of them are known for not doing fender through fender also...
