JON LEVIN OF DOKKEN ON TOUR THIS SUMMER WITH SPLAWN

Dokken was over the day George left. Any new music would be better served under a new band name. You couldn't give me free tickets and a limo to go watch Reb Beach or John Norum butcher George's music.

I saw Don Dokken on the tour..might have been 99 or 2000 ...was definately Reb in the live band..although Reb is in no way Lynch...it was a great fucking show.

Was a really cool time after Lynch left, as both Dokken and Lynch came back with really strong albums...gawd was that really 1990 ?

As guitar players I'm sure we listen to it for Lynch...but Dokken is definately as much Don (cheesy lyrics and melodies ;) )....even though I know people hate on him a lot.

I saw Don Dokken on the tour supporting Up from the Ashes I think...although Reb is in no way Lynch...it was a great fucking show.

I'll have to disagree about Don's importance to Dokken. I'm an older guy now and still listen to Dokken all the time despite the pathetically bad lyrics.

We're all musicians around here, and I suspect I'm not alone in the way I listen to music. Good music cannot be denied, and I tend to filter out alot of the vocals altogether on much of the 80's/90's stuff. The instrumentality usually carries it for me.

Don't get me wrong, bands like Badlands or Queensryche were the total package, but I'm not listening to Dokken or Ratt for the vocal stylings or lyrical content.

As for Reb Beach, I think he's a monster player but I have zero desire to hear him cop george Lynch riffs.

I don't know why you all are hating on Dawn Dokken. She had more power than Lita Ford or the chick in Vixen.

Tell me more about the gig bag.

We're talking about female singers here. Shouldn't we be concentrating on fun bags?

i thought that Levin guy's tone was great as it was playing a tube screamer and DSL/900...all bets he'll play it and go back to stock Marshalls...most of them do.

 What speakers are gonna be in the cabs? Also, will this be a new current model quickrod? :)

Levin is actually really good on the new Dokken disc .and can get so close to George in term of tones and phrasing that its Scary.

Reb Is Reb he does not play like George ,He does not play like Sykes in Whitesnake . But he is a great guitar player.

John Norum was also not the best choice .However Billy White in Don's solo band was pretty decent at the lynch style .

the cabs have big blocks in them and the quick rod is the current model.

Cool! Now he just needs to find a singer.

AMEN!!!

I can't stand Don Dokken. I hear he's a POS person too...
Not a nice person at all.

I met him in Memphis back in the late 80's for the Monsters Of Rock tour. Dude was a complete ass. Asked him for an autograph and he pretty much told me to go fuck myself that he wasnt feeling good. What a  baby. Pilson and Lynch were very cool. I have a pic of me with Lynch at the bar in the Double Tree somewhere. Its funny I was like 6'1 in high school and Lynch looks small next to me. That was one thig I thought was wierd when I walked up to him. I was been a big fan of his since I had started playing. Him and Eddie were the reason I started playing so anyway the first thing I thought as I was walking up to him wasnt "OMG there's Lynch" it was "Wow he's short."

I met Don at Taco Bell after a show back in the 80's. They opened for Loverboy (we left early during Loverboy and stopped to get some grub). While eating, in pulls a big bus and out came a couple long haired dudes. I told my buddy and our girlfriends..."hey!! that's Don Dokken" So we approached him and told him we were fans that just seen their show and asked for an autograph.

He asked if we enjoyed the show in which we said "hell yeah!", and asked the person behind the counter for something to write with

he gave me an autograph on a Taco Bell napkin that says...

Tom, Keep rockin'!
Don Dokken

I actually could care less for his autograph, all I wanted was to meet George Lynch, but he and the roadie dude he was with laughed their asses off when I asked if George would sign an autograph  He said while still chuckling..."Man, George don't do that shit buddy"

So all in all Don was very kind, polite and funny...it was George Lynch who I began to think was an ass after Don's comments :(

I think alot of musicians are very moody, especially if they do drugs. Hard being on the road as well. You could probably catch any one of them on a bad day. I have heard some stories of Don being an asshole, though. I think yours is the first positive one I have heard, Toneking.

Hahahaa, I bet that's why he was cool with you! Works everytime.

I will have to check out the Splawn board. Cool that they are digging it, but then again those lead tones I am getting are some of the best I ever had. Splawn. Awesome.

 Hey the road is a vicious cycle. Man it starts wearing on ya big time. But ultimately everyone has a different tolerance level for just about everything.
