That's why I like it, he's actually playing a song as opposed to widdly widdly stuff. Great melodic solo in my opinion, fitted the bill :)

OK I can see that angle. Though the thing that is most appealing to me about Guthrie is his unique voice. THIS COULD BE ANYBODY.

Not with that vibrato

hmm. I thought his vibrato was the weakest part of the playing. He had an opportunity for nice big vibrato and he went with a tight wiggle, every time...

I agree. I noticed it too because it's one of my worst habits. Working on breaking that though.
I love his vibrato - it doesn't always have to be wide to be good...

I'd argue that one of Govan's most endearing qualities is his humility. I can't imagine him ever in a position where his ego would compromise the music he was sessioning to.
Everything he does is either earnest and tasteful, or intentionally ott for comedy value.

I was talking about the other guys being unhappy that Guthrie gets all the attention and/or credit.

Drive Home solo is nice. Sounds like an E-Bow is used for the most part.

whats that supposed to mean?
what cause you dont like suhr or charvel they are not "real" guitars :boxer:

No disrespect to GG as he's a monster but all I could think was how David Gilmour would have destroyed that, in all the right ways, while GG was playing.

Immediately reminded me of Randy Rhoads' outro solo on "Tonight". Must be some kind of similar vibe going on.

i read in a mag that wilson forced guthrie to dial it back

I suspect there is some ego clash. Its supposed to be like a stripped down Dream Theater thing but most people probably see it as The Guthrie Show plus extras.

Highly doubt that. Steven Wilson is a much bigger name than Guthrie outside of guitar forums. He sounded great though

I've never heard of him. You probably need to be a prog fan, which I am not.

Love it but which part was prog? And I have no idea what you're going on about with the DT comparison. Perhaps I'm just missing it...

I had to look up Steve Wilson and Wiki said he was a noted prog musician. Just going with my Wiki lord and master.

What he plays here fits, which is more important than anything frankly. Going to see this tour tomorrow night, though sadly Guthrie and Marco aren't on the bill.

I still say that his solo in 'Drive Home' is one of the best things ever recorded in the history of ever. Starts at 5:05 for the impatient :) :

Beautiful and Amazing!!!

Love It!

what that was typical of that guy? or was he messin?
If he is going to dis Suhr and charvel which is basically what he did since Guthrie plays both
I would at least like to hear why he thinks they are not "real guitars"
he obviously is a "fender guy"
file.php

and i guess he is not aware that fender owns Charvel :D

Guthrie is such a fantastic player IMO... Hand. Cannot. Erase is an okay album, I found myself skipping past stuff -- it's too touchy feely for me compared to the heavy P-tree stuff that I really like.

I've owned plenty of Charvels over the years. Go find a sense of humor.

Just a joke! I love Charvels, and Guthrie.
He and Kotzen, for me anyway, are legitimate modern day guitar hero's!

I quite enjoyed watching this. Thanks for sharing. Not one of the players I follow but this was very nice.
