I was watching a Joe Satriani rig rundown and he said he now runs his amps at 114Db on stage, this is LOUD!

So out of curiousity i put my earplugs in and cranked my amp to my usual gig volume amd i hit 105Db using the db meter pro on the ipad.

Do you guys know how loud you play live ?

Rik

Right around 105-115dBA for practice. Never measured it at a show. I always wear ear plugs at practice and gigs.

i try to stay under 100 and keep bass freqs tight

I never measured but I never really played loud( well back in the early days, I was obnoxiously loud but no more than anyone else back then.) I do need a decent amount of volume these days but nothing that could ever be considered loud..

Ironically, I wear an earplug in my right ear not because of my amp volume but because the snare drum KILLS me!!!

I measured my Dual Recto

With the master around 10:00 it peaked at 109dB on transients but averaged 88dB. Most transients were in the 104-106dB range, but every minute or so one would come out a little louder.

For shits and giggles I dropped the master to 9:00 (100w) and it peaked at 99dB and averaged 82dB. This was low enough that I could hear my pick hitting my strings.

With the master at 11:00 (100w) it'd peak around 124dB and average 99dB. This was loud enough that I was in my own zone. :D

Depending on the drummer 9:00 is on the bottom end of where I can hear myself. 11:00 is fun, but I try to make an effort to keep my volume reasonably low in an effort to avoid a volume war.

I've never been an exceptionally loud player. I like HUGE tone, but I never found the tone was as big when it was so screaming loud that it was unenjoyable for an audience.

Yeah i really only ever play loud enough to be heard. Sometimes that means i have to be pretty loud and others i can be soft. I honestly hardly ever put my Mark V in the full 90 watt mode. It usually stays around 10 watts or 40 depending on where im playing.

Probably around 40db, since I have the privelage of keeping my cab in an iso room at my church. I can be as loud as I want, and no one cares. :D

When playing drums in my band, my drum monitor runs at 112db. Pretty loud. And the only hearing loss is at 4000hz in my right ear. And my monitor always sits to my left.

How did you calibrate the reading? dBA? Distance and angle from source?
dB readings are pretty much useless without listing more than just the number ;)

Just giving you crap since acoustic measurements are my career :)
