The letter S begins with a vowel sound? eh?  I get what you are saying, and that would be why linguistically the brian tends to go there. But from the book learning they gave me it is incorrect. But who knows anymore? :D

And more importantly, WHO CARES?!?!?!?

I was unfortunate enough to only have the experience to play a Soldano SLO 100 at a Phoenix Guitar Center, in their sound room a few years back.
I can't remember what unfortunate speaker cab was connected to it, but it kinda sounded not that great...please before you hurl insults in my general direction, remember where I tried it at.
It probably needed tubes, biasing, ect...who knows??
I flipped through the rhythm channel and the lead channel and it just sounded fizzy kind of pre-amp gained out.
I know that these are fabulous sounding amps, Gary Moore's SLO 100 in particular, where he used the rhythm channel and used a Marshall Guv'nor pedal or Tube Screamer for leads was an absolute tone monster as was Warren Haynes amp and Warren DeMartini's, so this may have been a bad day in the city for this amp.
Nonetheless it was disappointing, hope to try a healthy one in the future.
This was the same GC where I tried an EJ Strat that was set up so badly I had to put it down, even an EC Strat..the same thing.
That's why in Phoenix it sucks to try out guitar gear trust me I know.
The 2 hours I spent at Rainbow Guitars in Tuscon in comparison were absolute heaven, with incredible selection and professionally set up equipment.

Very cool clip of "an" SLO at very low volume:

My SLO with no mods sounds very good at low volumes but lacks some girth it seems.

Heres' my take;
A SLO.
An S.L.O.
A Super Lead Overdrive.
Finally. Better yet:
a SLO (a slow)
an SLO (an es el oh)

an honor (silent h)
a hermaphrodite

etc.

  :)

Why do people say "an Slo" instead of "a Slo"? Please enlighten me. I see this a lot.

It'a called an SLO which stands for (Super Lead Overdrive)...NOT a "slow".

This amp is a buzzy fizzy nasty mess with the master overdrive output knob turned way down but sounds amazing as it gets louder.

Not my findings and I've owned many.
Absolutely. All amps need to be mated with the correct cab and speaker; SLO is no different.
What "magical" combination of speakers/cabinets keeps the slo from being buzzy fizzy at super low volumes

Well that's a loaded question since you obviously don't like it at lower volumes. But try a Mullard or Telefunken in V1 or 2 and a 12L.
Soldano SLO and super low volume shouldn't even be in the same sentence.

What parrotted BS. LOL. Same can be said for any amp.

The buzz can be attributed to user error (can't dial an amp in) and tin ears.

SLO sounds great thru Greenbacks
Since your so much better than anyone else at dialing slos in Got any vids of your awesome super low volume slo tone..or does it just sound good at super low volume because you say it does

Not what I said Skippy. It seems MOST if not all SLO owners are satisfied with the low volume tone. I don't need to post clips to shove this fact up your ass.
"Superlow" volume? How low is "super" low? At that point why have an amp? Press the headstock to the nearest wall and have at it.
Stupid fuck. How dare you challange me
Of course you wouldn't do clips because you know your full of shit and have manure falling out yo ears. You win the slo sounds like God at super low volumes, it must be true just because you say it does
Here ya go, buddy. SLO with volume under 1!!!

edit: oops, beat me to it. I'm leaving this post though. Perfect example of low volume awesomeness!

Just to stir it further, 'SLO' is not an abbreviation, it's a mnemonic. :)

For an amp that is so fêted, there are surprisingly few clips online.
Was excited to try one for the first time last week, cranked through a 4x12 w/greenbacks,
and (disappointingly) found it fairly ordinary.
Perhaps is was not running well, as the rest of the room felt the same.
We happily went back to our own-build 70s Marshall for more 3D tones.

Are they turned over regularly, or is it just my imagination?
